Anyone Supercharge a goodwrench 350?
I decided to go with a t56 in my Camaro but i am still tossing around what engine to go with. My first choice is to build a 383 stroker with one of the summit blocks:
comp cams roller magnum lobe cam with a custom cut 230/230 @.050 560/560 112lsa,
64cc vortec heads, 1.94 intake 1.5 exhaust, port and polish
650cfm carb
square bore vortec intake manifold
flat top pistons, 2 valve reliefs
10.85:1 compression
Then i came across the GM Goodwrench 350 for 1,350.00 on jegs. 260hp, 350 torque with 8.5:1 compression.
My question is has anyone ever supercharged one of these motors? The compression seems nice enough to do it, but how much can the stock bottom end handle? I know it would void the warranty, but i would probably go about doing it after it is up, if it can handle a nice amount of power.

Re: Anyone Supercharge a goodwrench 350?
.. About every car magazine has articles on line about power adding the ZZx shortblock with hypereutectic pistons and forged crank, but the Mexican Goodwrench 260 & 290 just have cast crank and cast pistons which wouldn't take much boost without melting or breaking... maybe take 2 or 3 lbs. max for short bursts and live very long...
.. Instead of a GoodWrench, I'd suggest putting the money into a strongly rebuilt 350 with the 350 or 383 crank, rods, and forged pistons you need, rather than buying an engine you'll break or soon want to throw 1/2 of it away...
.. You got a 350 engine to start out with?

No I don't have one yet. I heard good things about the summit 350 block. For 650 bucks it has all the 383 machine work done. It's a 1996-2004 1 piece main block.

the goodwrench engine is fine to boost depending on what ur power goals are if u want to make 800 hp tyhen go forged, if u want to push 4-500 hp its fine, there is only one thing i would do with the goodwrench engine if i was going to boost it.and that would be pull the heads push out the pistons and open up the top ring gap.
i have used hper pistons in many many builds and as long as the tune is on and u dont get detonation they live just fine

. I want to get her on the road and the good-wrench is affordable enough to do that. But i want to make some power later on, which is when ill add the super charger. I also wanted to make between 400-500hp with the 383, so if i can get 400 out of the goodwrench Ill be happy
. How much PSI do you think the goodwrench can handle? Thanks. Supreme Member

if u tune it right and dont have any detonation theres no limit to the boost number. though u do have to take into account what the crank and rods will hold before they come apart power wise.
my v6 motor with a stock cast crank stock rods and hyper pistons have seen well over 25 psi
but stock cast cranks, and stock rods have been well above 500hp
i would deffintaly invest into a good methanol injection system, it adds a large saftey net into the build and isnt exspensive

its not a good idea... cast pistons and crank...
But part of me says for $1400... why not? If it blows up you're out $1400... you can spend $1400 on a forged crank/rods/and pistons. Hell you can go find a 305 someone is giving away because they cant sell it and just see what it can take.

Re: Anyone Supercharge a goodwrench 350?
u know my advice to ppl who want to build a turbo or supercharged angine is usually if its there very first time with any sort of forced induction is to go buy a junkyard motor and learn on that this way if u blow it up ur only oout 2-300 bucks
and trust me most ppls first attempt at a forced induction build usually goes boom forged motor or not

Being its just 1400 for a new engine, i may just buy it and run it stock for a year or two. Then ill just pull it and throw in a forged rotating assembly, then supercharge. At least then I wont have to pay for another block AND forged internals if a rod goes through it.

Re: Anyone Supercharge a goodwrench 350?
I have a goodwrench 350, a person from here looked up the casting numbers and it was said to be the same exact one your talking about. Mine is all stock internals except a cam lifter change. It has vortec heads, airgap intake and holley 670 carb. There has been build articles of this same engine getting alittle over 400 hp and over 400 pounds of tq. I was really considering to throw a turbo on this, but i will warn you about nitrous. Who ever had this engine before me ran a pretty big bottle because everything but the pistons were trash. Just to ask about a turbo, since all is stock internally, could i just throw a single turbo on with my existing parts and be fine? Sorry to take the thread, its just i havent seen anyone talk about the goodwrench engine wih forced induction
