Single turbo build 350
Single turbo build 350
So...I have reading the boards for years now wondering if i can pull off a mild build. So lets start with what I have to work with.
A Precision 6031e housing 64mm inlet .63A/R
Some rectangular tubing .25 wall 1.5x3
A set of stock 350 manifolds that i will notch out as I saw in another thread
Plenty of flat steel and angle iron to make flanges/braces etc
A cheap single in single out intercooler
A cheap wastegate and bov
I have a 80k mile tpi 350 with siamese runners, billet 24# injectors, and bbk throttlebody just laying around taking space so I might as well use it
My question at the moment is...Is the turbo even close to the size i need for a 350? I still had a 305 in the car when i bought it and i wondered if it was kinda small then. 305 now resides in a 88 4x4 yota

Re: Single turbo build 350
I'm not sure why that pic isn't working
I made some progress cleaning the garage and I took a bunch of stuff to storage(I really need to start selling stuff) and brought home some manifolds. I'm entertaining the idea of cutting a hole in the wall for a window unit a/c.
Can anyone help me find a compressor map for that turbo...I wish I could find another one they would be perfect twins.
Anyone opinions on these, they are for a vette I guess

I had those headers once, they are fine, just have an exhaust shop redo the crossover if you plan on running over 15-psi because they crack due to being as thin as a potato chip. Must have welded my old ones twenty freaking times. I'll be following this build...

Re: Single turbo build 350
Its small for a 350. Depending on power goals but i dont like the tiny a/r for a single. It would spool quick tho but run out of steam up top and have higher backpressures. Turbine probably alittle small to although i didnt find complete specs. Just that its a 59mm comp they say not 64. Unless you got something different or thats the turbine size.
350-400 whp should be good with that but would be turning it hard at 400 hp

Thanks guys... I think I will stick with my homemade manifold idea...I can't stand the idea of buying stuff lol... as far 3-4hundred horse that is plenty for me at this point, the goal of this build is mostly just to break the learning curve and build a fun street car on a budget. I would look to keep the boost conservative at this point and work within the limits of the injectors that I currently have, then when I get bored with that, the all out build can commence.

alt mounted to air pump location...the p/s bracket was busted off in the crash so I have to get a new one if if want to return the alt to stock location

Not much progress yet but I have been thinking about putting the turbo on the driverside... I had already moved my altenator to the a/c compressors location and cut the top of the p/s bracket down. I have been entertaining the idea of putting ac back in the car. i remember see a pic of an alt hangin where the air pump goes, so I decided to try that out. I tried a search for a thread on this but was unsuccessful.
Looks like it will work just need to shim the pulley out about an 1/8th of an inch .

Re: Single turbo build 350
Just buy the biggest wastegate you can afford lol 44-50 mm i'd say to accurately control boost on that small hotside

Progress update.... engine and trans out, wire harness, brake booster, strut caps etc out. Started cleaning things up for paint. Got some rust repair to muddle through before i can start spraying.
I'm getting discouraged a little about using this turbo, thinkin about selling all my small block stuff and going lsx... at least i got some work done finally, either way

Well you do have a blank slate to work with now lol! Guess you just have to ask yourself how much work your willing to put into this...
I have a question for you about the alternator relocation, how much work was involved to put it into that location? Looks like it just plugs right in.

Re: Single turbo build 350
yeah tony I'm not sure if the alt will work there definitely would require an idler pulley somewhere. basically i just elongated the hole and clearanced the bracket for the fan but it also sits back about a 16th or 1/8th out of line with the belt. so i abandoned that...i got the idea from another thread not sure if that guy was successful. I did work out a system using stock brackets to delete a/c and smog without idlers if you are interested i can describe it to ya. I want a/c on the car now so maybe I'll sell ya mine
