Mount 10lb bottle between back seats?
The battery is in the rear well taking up about half the space thanks to the Moroso "blue tuperware box." (Battery box doesn't fit in the spare tire compartment). The bottle will not fit in the rear well now. The spare tire well is inaccessable to open/close valve. The driver's side compartment is too small for the bottle. The top of the trunk- I'm kind of weary to drill into because of the gas tank. I'd like to keep my fourthgen back seats intact. So would it be alright to mount the bottle between the back seats on the trans/driveshaft tunnel? I was maninly concerned if this would not pass tech inspection at the track for some reason or if there are any other reasons against it. I do have a blowdown tube. The bottle would be aimed basicly at the shifter if you are having trouble visualizing. I'd really like some opinions! I think painting the bottle to match the car would look pretty trick when placed between the rear seats.
Cool idea on the red bottle, it would look good would be easy to turn the bottle on. It seems like the only option you have unless you want to do this. I plan on mounting my bottle on a board the size of the bottom of a duffle bag. I already have a shorter line or you can coil up one you have now. That way you dont even have to tech in with the nitrous if the bottle not in the car. This is not the safest way but it the sniper way

I built a board for my 85 and put it in the spare tire well. with that plastic screw left out the cover just pulls open and closed and the carpet held it closed even during 9" ford breaking 6000 rpm side step launches on that 11 second car.

The only thing from a safety point of view that I can think of is that it might be a good idea to install a rear driveshaft safety loop. They are easily welded to the torque arm, and some aftermarket arms come with them as an option. It isn't likely that you would pitch a rear U joint, but it does happen. If it did and it chewed into the driveshaft tunnel and the bottom of the bottle it wouldn't be a fun day.
I run mine in the spare tire well like Tom. I just screw the front top access screw in a couple of turns so it easily removes by hand to access the valve.

LOL, I think they often hire retired baseball umpires with cataracts to be techies.

I don't like the idea of it being put in between the seats like that. I don't even think that it looks good. I would mount a plate in the rear tire well and put it there. The plate will have to sit up about 8-10 inches so that the bottle will clear the stuff in there. I wouldn't want anyone to see the bottle. I guess I like the sleeper image.

I know this sounds strange but the way I adjust my seats and with the dome light bulb removed nobody ever found my bottle mounted in the middle like that when I had it mounted there on my 1982. I would throw a small crumpled up blanket or even my jacket across the seat on top of it. they would look under the hatch, in the spare tire well (where it was mounted on my 85), in the little tool compartment or what ever it is, under the hood, and even once right behind the seats and totally miss it. I put a 305 TPI from a wrecked iroc and the # 51XX dry manifold NOS kit in it with 5.0 19# mustang injectors. I ran the nozzle into the middle of the "Y" on the airbox and mounted the selenoids under and behind the headlight section and the lines inside of old used black loom. I even "flat blacked" the selenoids and Nitrous "tee" pressure device to hide it from hard prying eyes. BLACK FLAG; "kills stangs dead!"

My buddy has a TON of stereo, so when it came to bottle locations it was only between the seats on his 98 Z. We had to hack off the back section of the console. It's a Kevlar bottle though. Looks soooo sweet with the new 'Glass work to fill in the hacked off part.

thats really a good idea, l like the idea behind being able to turn the bottle on at any time, i've run into so many races where l wish l wouldve been able to crawl back and turn the bottle on, but l didn't have enough time. having it in bewtween the seats makes it easily accessible, and as tom said, in a weird way out of sight. the last place l would ever look would be under a jacket or blanket in the back seat. just be sure to hook up the blow down tube to exit the car incase a disk should go.
i plan on putting the bottle right bewteen the seats like that...i dont care about being a sleeper...everyone around here would know i have it anyways (since noone else does) and its not illegal here so im gonna stick it right there so i can access it easy
What about mounting the bottle on the transmission like that, and slapping some fiberglass and some carpet over it... Voila! brand new center console in the back... You can build in cupholders, ashtrays (although the huge bottle of nitrous there may discourage smokers)
, and even put on a new glove compartment... Or not

I liked the " ready to race" accessability in the between the seats setup on my 82 (sold) but I cant get you a picture of the board I built for the 85 because it belongs to a friend of mine that lives in nearby colorado. I havent even seen the car in over a year. but you can see how a bottle looks mounted there in "the camaro performance handbook/modifying 1982 to 1992 camaros" by David Shelby 1993 $12.52 at amazon.com . The info is semi-useful although a bit out dated for some. It has an awsome historical info data base.
