Should I gear or spray the 305?

I have 2.73 posi (Boo!) Stock bottom end with 110K miles. Should I spray a 100-150 NX shot or add 3.73s. I'm looking for a better quarter. Or should I say stoplight times? I don't have the money to replace an engine nor the time. And if being responsible helps, I'd spray maybe once every 2 weeks.

Gears don't have to be refilled and a bigger set will also accept more HP later.

Gears aren't dangerous either!

gears will be there everytime u step on it, u will always feel that gain unlike nitrous which is only there with the flip of a switch or button. With that many miles ur asking for trouble with nitrous also. go with gears, u'll be happier in the long run(no rebuild for a while)

what about differences in times with 3.73s compared to spray? my car is a dog out of the hole but puts me in my seat after 3000 and still pulls at 4800.

Your times will definately improve. I know that with the 2.73's the car shifts right before the traps with the 3.73's you'll get a shift a little bit after the eighth so the engine can pull through third too. Here's a little tech to help out too. 3.73's will give you a 37% increase in torque. If the engine make 250 ft-lbs that's like a 92 ft-lb increse. If that torque is being made at 5252 RPM then the HP is equal to the torque(probably not making 250 ft-lbs at 5252 RPM) so we can assume that your HP increase is less than 100 for arguments sake, even though gears do not multiply HP. The lesson here is that your times won't be as good with gears as with juice, but there will be less wear on the system and better reliability.

What does it take to switch from 2.73 to 3.73 gears? Isn't there some expensive work involved?

I can't remember if you have to change the carrier or not, but you should definately have a dealership or other reputable shop set up the rear for the proper spacing and preload.

Doing a gear swap to mine right now and with a 2.73 carrier all you will have to do is order your gears to fit the 2 series carrier...richmond makes a set and through Summit the install kit and gears will run around $303.??..hope I helped

from 1st to 2nd? just kidding! also nitrous is to dangerous what people are to stupid. as far as gear installs go, we charge about $300 ($250 for diffs or rears out of the car) for the labor to install, we use a few specialized tools that were very expesive and we set the pinion depth, sideload, and backlash to within +/- .001 (compared to the factory +/- .005) and pinion preload to within 1 inch pound of drag. It is a beautiful thing to set up even the cheapest set of gears and never hear so much as a whine or wimper.
