a Off Topic board

OK Why cant we have an off topic board (section) that way we can post stuff & talk just 3rd gen stuff or general F-body with out fear of it getting locked????

I just Posted something from Scott Settlemire In it he was Hinting about the comeback of the F-bodies ( I know Scott Well enough to know the fact that he was hinting them coming back) &it gets locked.

I am not mad that it got locked but I am a little upset at the way the guy said it.

So my question is why CANT we have an OFF TOPIC Section where we can talk Generalized F-body stuff that does not fall under what sections you have.

Ok I belong to several that have off topic boards that Work just fine. But oh well. Guess I am tired of seeing 10 threads a day being locked because they were Generalized F-body talk & ppl getting upset that they cant post that kind of stuff.

1. Brad posted stickies on all of the boards reguarding the "non-tech" talk going on all of the boards
2. IROCZTWENTYGR8 posted a special sticky at the top of this board
3. IROCZTWENTYGR8 refers you to the sticky he posted
4. You have noticed alot of locked posts due to them being "non-tech".

Enough said so quit asking.

I just asked seeing it would be nice to have a place where we can post NON tech statements.

My other comment is to the fact that I have seen other places do a very good job of runing a Non Tech off topic setting. I was not pushing the issue here.

I do feel comments from you were Quite rude. But I guess that most of the Mod have that right. Oh well Enough said by me.

Rude? Well maybe alittle. As you are tired of seeing posts locked by many of us Moderators over this topic. We too are tired of locking the posts. The members have been told, and told, and told, but they continue to keep posting things that they know will get locked. I guess some are thinking that if they keep pushing the Admins and Moderators they will give up. That too is not going to happen-they will be banned first. So why ask a question that has been answered over and over again?

Another thing I see is the Mods can be rude to us but we get banded if we are rude to them.

I have not read all the stickys up on the boards. Plus the ones I have seen have not talked about a Off topic board. This is the first I have seen of it being a NO go.

But I guess that a nicely ran system wouldnt work here. Oh well As I said before Enough said about it from me.

This is the sticky that Brad had posted:

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The user agreement has been modified on 1/22/2003. The following paragraph has been added:

Please note that this is a TECH ONLY website. If your post does not relate to technical information on third generation f-bodies and ONLY third generation f-bodies, it will be deleted and you will be warned. Further non-compliance will result in temporary suspension and/or permanent banning. This is a zero-tolerance policy and will be strictly enforced.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't make the rules I just enforce them. Only Admins can ban you, not a Moderator. Yes sometimes we can be rude. While you are having fun on the boards us Mods are trying to keep peace among 20,000+ people and that is not always an easy job so sometimes we aren't always in the greatest mood. Other times well......

BTT: I hope answered your question.

Quite a few of us have been trying to get a Western Canadian Regional board on here. They don't seem to want to give us one which is alright but I can see why they don't want an off topic board. No one wants to read someones take on say the War in Iraq on this board. If someone wants to talk about stuff other than thirdgens there are lots of avenues to do that on the net.

John

I know how it is I run my own board by my self & no one else helps out. Rule one for me on my own site IS NEVER BE RUDE to the Members.
Plus I have my own life. Kids, husband, Car club, Dragracing, car shows, Little league & a Domiones league. But being rude to members should be uncalled for.

If you are not in the greatest of moods then you shouldnt be doing your Mod job at that time. I personally have worked with the General public & know how hard it is to keep my feelings & my mood from effecting my job. & I just do it.
The Mod being rude reflects on this board & how the members & guess decided on if they are staying or even signing up for this board. The promotion of this board is mainly done on word of mouth & by memebers putting it in thier sigs when they are at other boards.

I am not talking allowing a Generalized off topic like in CZ28.com or GM forums I am talking about a Generalized F-body only. I have 3 camaros. 2 3rd gens & 1 4th gen. Many parts of the two gens are interchangeable. Plus also being allowed to bring News from GM & from My Friend Scott Settlemire about the come back for the F-bodies is what I am talking about.

Yes I know the 3 to 4th gen is Tech but sometimes I see threads locked because it has 4th gen in the title.

Well, it really doesn't matter because there will never be an Non-Tech board here again. I don't see why any1 would want to talk Non-Tech on a CAMARO and FIREBIRD tech site?! Why spend all your time here learning?! This site is viewed by alot of top magazines and important people in the auto industry, peoples' off topic BS does not need to be seen by them or any1 else IMO. This place is what it is because of its great information and concentration on the Third Generation F-Body. So we have to ask again that you don't ask!! I hope you can understand.

Hmm, I would think a W. Canadian Board would be a good idea. Maybe you could start your own W.C board that way W. Canadians would have a place to hang out. Put the link in your sig to help promote the site. Just a thought

I'm not trying to be rude. But, that there is the problem, sticky posts are made for a reason. I know on my board, I make sticky posts on topics that are essential to be read. So, if someone misses the info, that's their fault, I made it more than convenient for them to read it.

Hope this helps.

It would be great if we had a nontech board but the same thing would happen again. If you had a disagreement with someone else then you'd flame each other on it in the bs board. But it would trickle out to the tech boards, every time you would post that person would start crap with you and it ruined the thread. I hardly ever notice any new stickies cause the same ones are alwasy up on top so I just skip over them. So for fun I just go to other boards to start up crap especially on exotic imports from the far east, lol lots of fun. OR for regular conversations I go to cz28,hr3rdgen,and many other places for that. I like this site for its great tech content where you dont have to wade thru crap to find what you want.

I'd also like to add that having a Non-tech board with the number of active members this sites has would be terrible for the server and the board, it would be TONS of unnecessary bandwidth. Personally I think the regional boards should be more retricted about 3rd gen F-Body stuff in their area but they aren't very big right now so I'm not complaining

The site is meant to be a third generation f-body site, not second generation, not fourth generation, not rip on other Camaros, not rip on other cars. If you want to talk about other things, go to the chat room, private message people you want to talk to, email people, instant message people you want to talk to. Theres also a chat on AIM most nights with a bunch of the people from here.

Hmm... After reading this thread and the sticky and the user agreement I got this great idea.
