need to have a link in the message board area for the classified section

 

All you gotta do is take the link to the main page.

 

Always could add another "forum" here, and simply link it to the outside classifieds section. Easy.

That way, people who do visit this forum, will clearly see the Classifieds section listed as a forum, even if it won't really be a part of vB.

I would think that would also prevent those questions from people asking where the Classifieds section is, and the For Sale posts in the regular forums.

I am sure some have never seen the main index page to this site, especially the newbies.

 

yeah i agree, something has to be done, like putting the classifieds link in the board somewhere. and if someone would click it would just send them to the classifieds page.

 

I agree, the classifieds are more or less hidden. A link off the message board would give them more exposure, or maybe make the Classifieds link stand out more (give it its own section instead of stuck under Board Archives)

 

the classifieds & the chat room both have the same access prob,i have to go to www.thirdgen.org to access them although i don't think i will go to the chat room anymore(it's a long story with a sad ending)

 

I put a temp link on one of my other sites, and both the chat and classified links worked.

Even if they did have a domain restriction on them, they can fix that

 

Nah, Dirk doesn't want it. He also wants people to have to go to the main page because alot of times they don't and TGO is more than a message board.

 

I can totally understand that, as an admin myself of a club. I can understand that for the Chat section since it's really not part of the forums, but really, the Classifieds is a forum and really should belong with the rest of the forums.

I mean, it's a sign that so many people ask where the Classifieds are, or end up just posting them in whatever Tech forum they wish, that perhaps the layout isn't the most uniform to make sense to users. Most expect the Classifieds to be with the rest of the forums, even though your particular classifieds setup isn't a part of the vB software...most end users dont know that, or care.

If that is how Dirk feels, which is understandable, I am kinda shocked he allows linking to the main forum's index. He could easily force everyone to go thru the front page everytime, when someone tries to use a link directly to the forums
