What happened to TGO last night?

Up until maybe about 15 minutes ago, when I went to thirdgen.org, it would go to some SlowTravel site.

I thought TGO had been killed by Internet Brands. Glad to see its back.

I was afraid that it was something wrong on my end. I'm glad to hear that it wasn't just me.

Re: What happened to TGO last night?

Thats what I thought at first, but then I found out that the Slowtravel site is actually owned by Internet Brands, the owner of Thirdgen.org and Jelsoft (vBulletin forums). I thought they had killed TGO and replaced it with that site instead.

It was probably a DNS server error that made any requests to TGO redirect to Slowtravel.

Exactly what I thought. I ran a google search for "slowtravel" and it came right up. However, upon clicking the link, the slowtravel site could not be reached. I guess somewhere in their database the IP addresses must have gotten mixed up.

I wonder how many people went to a different site they frequent, and got pissed that us gearheads took over thier domain?

Yup it is sad, they dont seem to really care about board problems either. Ive been going to other third gen sites like thirdgentech.com and gtasourcepage.com more than this one because this one has really gone down hill lately.

The adminstrators and moderators of this website do care. I personally care. I admit there are problems to sort out, but please don't make such a bold statement. I give a lot of my time and effort to this website, more than anyone knows. I'm always involved. Unfortunately some things are currently out of my hands. I've been working on that.

Believe me, I understand your frustration and concern. But I take a bit of an offense to state we don't care.

Thanks.

I was thinking to myself... "Where am i gonna go to get my 3rd gen stuff?" None of the other camaro site cater to well to the 3rd gens...

But I am just glad it is back

Don't worry JT - We Know !

You know how it is,.......... frustration levels always climb the longer a problem persists. There's no doubt that you - along with the other admins and mods are putting in overtime these days.

I'm sure with TGO being down for a little while many of the members here realize what they have to lose and that even if it's a little broke - it's still the best ThirdGen site on the web.

Seriously, I got upset when it didn't come up! To loose this site as a resource would have been a BIG deal to me. I am VERY glad to see it's back up!

I really did not want to take a trip to the U.K., just wanted to know a brake part number.

Re: What happened to TGO last night?

Good to see TGO is back. This morning when I logged on I was wondering what happened. Doing a quick DNS resolve showed TGO and slowtravel to be very close to the same IP so I figured it wasn't a hack. My guess is there was a network admin fault updating the DNS server.

I've been a member of TGO for too many years now. I've seen lots of network faults and a few hacks. The site admins are usually very quick to get things fixed and running again. The admins and moderators do a good job maintaining the forums compared to other sites of this size.

Re: What happened to TGO last night?

I was in no way putting down the people who maintain thirdgen.org.. and I network admin myself and stuff happens so I wasnt worried about that either. I was suprised when this site got purchased, but even more in shock when I realized the people had pretty much purchased every big car forum on the net to go with it.. they have a little list of their owned sites, I didnt even see thirdgen.org in the list (maybe I overlooked it) but 3 of the other ones on their list I am a member of :P
The changeovers have not affected me much, increased ad content does nothing but annoy me, but I probably havent clicked an ad (cept maybe by accident) anytime this decade.. my brain filters them out ;0

It was pointed out by someone else these forums have always been moderated and run by people volunteering their time for free, but how long before all these free volunteers get tired of helping to make money for big business and leave..

" wanted, anybody who knows a damn thing about cars plz apply"

I have to say, I was a little scared that it crashed.

I also noticed the Email Notification isn't working again.
