Wheels and TiresNeed help with wheels or tires? Got fitment issues? Have questions about tire performance and handling? Ask all of those questions here!
I have a 82 Camaro and i recently got some 29.5/9/15 slicks.
i thought they would work but at first it was hard to get them even bolted on. then the spare tire rubbed so i cut it out and patched it up. i even rolled the fenders and it still rubs with body weight on the suspension. The wheels i have are 15" with 4.5in back spacing and only a 7 1/2 inch wheel. i was told a 5 1/2 or even a 5 inch back spaced wheel would fix the rubbing on the outer fender but i cant find them locally. i was also told a taller spring with the same softness would work, but i have no idea what springs are on the rear or even how soft they are. if you guys could suggest some tall/soft springs that would be great. also i dont want to put the money into mini tubbing it or cutting the factory 10 bolt down. the tire just rubs the outer fender and i dont want to chop the body up because it looks tacky. if you could please just suggest some ideas for me to do or try in order for it to work.
29.5" is a big tire for these cars. I don't see it fitting with out lifting the body with bags or taller springs. I run drag bags in mine with Iroc springs and 28" tires and it's a very tight fit.
That's going to be a lot of torque on even a upgraded 10 Bolt.
yeah i understand that. i just got the car. hasnt even made a motor pass with this set up. i dont want to put money into cutting it down because i know its going to go soon. so im just waiting for it to go so i can go 9inch
have you tried looking for the suggested tires online? I agree, your tires and wheels setup would really rub if you don't do any lift
i know what size that will fit. its just i bought the 29.5's under the impression they would work because i was told by a owner locally they will. unfortunately, they dont fit as well as i was told. so i have two brand new slicks mounted and i dont have the money for new ones lol.
Try a set of drag bags. Sounds like you will end up needing them anyway. They may give you enough lift to clear. Also you could try a thicker spring rubber
Well i got the 29.5 to fit without cutting the fender.. No rubs. no body lift. i kept the same spring i had in it. I rolled the heck out of the fenders though. im cleaning them up now so they dont look so bad. pulled the left front just on motor.. lol not a bad set up for no burnout and 3/4 throttle.. lol Thank you guys for the ideas.
