What parts of the wiring harness can be removed.
I am swapping my 305 tpi engine for a carbureted Chevy 355 in my 1987 Firebird Formula. I was wondering what wires I can remove because I am getting a little confused. I don't want to cut any wires but I want every wire that isn't needed out. Is there a plug on the inside of the passenger side fender that I can just unplug to get everything like the fuel injector wires out. What are all the wires on the drivers side, is that all the gauge cluster inside. I would like to get the wires cleanly out because my plan is to put that tpi in my 1941 Chevy truck. pictures will come shortly. Thanks for any information.

You can remove the ECM harness entirely,...the one of the pass side. You'll need all the wiring on the drivers side.
Once you remove the TPI ECM your speedo will probably quit working. You can correct this problem by simply grounding the black wire on your VSS buffer or grounding the buffers ground at the C207 connector.

Good luck !

clarification:
You'll need the all harnesses that plug into the drivers side,.... all the stuff connected to the ECM harness ( even relays MOUNTED on the drivers side ) can be removed.

On the inside there's a C-clip that slides out. I say C but it's more like [ Pretty sure it slides up. Look close, you can't miss it.

No special tools needed to remove the clip.you might need to use a flat blade screw driver to pry it up .
Post 1 shows what the inside looks like.

Im in the middle of a similar swap and when I went to remove the maf relays on the drivers side, the wires were entangled with another harness that needed to remain in the vehicle preventing me from removing without cutting many wires. something to look out for.

The headlights and interior gets power through c100. Not sure if this is the same as 86 but here’s a pinout of 87 c100.

Post #7 is a pass through connector and can be removed. It contains the ecm efi wiring.

Esc module, maf burn off and power relay. Not sure how you are doing your fuel pump but the other relay is fuel pump.
