That happened to me on my truck. The main power wire to the starter caught on fire!
Luckily I was in my driveway when I noticed it and I was able to put it out with the garden hose.
Almost had a Car-B-Q !

anyone set the underside of their dash on fire?
was welding in a patch for the shifter hole, had everything else covered in towels, didn't think I'd need to protect anything under there. I put the welder down and stepped back and smelled something, looked under my dash to see a nice little fire just burning away. I tried blowing it out but I just got a mouthful of noxious fumes. ran and grabbed the fire extinguisher and sprayed a quick blast up under there. turned out just to be the headlight switch, nothing more. well, some connector that I don't have a clue what it went to, but everything works still. guess some of the welding slag flew up under there.

My car always likes to break down right before a gathering, or the day after... it does it every time.
This time is no fail. I am currently working on getting it back to its normal state.... seriously pissing me off though..
In other news.. I am probabally not going to make it anyway..

Lets start with the whole story, shall we? I have always had a miss somewhere in my car. In order to get that straightened out, I bought some spark plug wire looms in order to get the plug wires away from the header. Which is what I was assuming the miss was coming from. In order to get the looms on, I had to cut the AIR tubes from my headers. I knew I had to do this anyway, and I wanted to do this. So, I spent an entire day getting everything straightened out. Well, now my miss is gone. FINALLY!. I have always had this miss. While everything was out, I did a compression test in order to make sure nothing truly mechanically was wrong with the car. That went alright, since I have exactly 175PSI compresson on every cylinder.
Anyway, while I got rid of my miss, I still had a funny idle stumble. So I took apart my throttle body and cleaned the whole thing out, including my IAC. Once I got everything back together, the car was running pretty good. Until the day after when I had a long trip downtown. On the way back from downtown, my AC compressor finally dies. It was on its way out, but now its deffinitely out for good. Well, for whatever reason, when that happened, my car would not idle anymore. Its been harder to start too. But with just a little bit of gas, the car will crank right up. I believe that I have a vacuum leak somewhere, probabally in the throttle body.
Now, all of this is NOTHING compared to what just happened to me a few minutes ago while driving to work. Short story, something was in the road, I hit it. I didn't see it because a truck was in front of me. Anyway, my car just puked its oil all over the parking lot and my oil pan is FUBAR'd.
Woo... everything is going great here. I was thinking, MAYBE I would make it out to the track tonight with you guys. But I guess not this time.

Lol.. well.. this is simply ridiculous though..
I was able to finally get the car near the shop though. I patched it up as well as I could with some permatex. It still leaks a little bit, but it was ok enough for me to drive it. Now I just need to either fix the leak, or replace the pan. I want to go for the latter, but I don't really feel like going throught that bull****. I helped Scott with his car, and its simply not fun.
