Looking for a shop to do a rebuild

Hey guys, I have a 91 RS that I just purchased and it would make you sick to know how little it cost me. The body is straight I just want to get a few things corrected. The engine still runs pretty strong, but it has a breathing problem. I was changing the filter and saw oil on the pcv valve filter and that it has 132k miles on it. It has the 305 LO4 engine. In a few years I am planning on swapping it out for a stroker 383 but for now I would feel better if I had this 305 rebuilt. Are there any good shops in the Houston area that woudl do it for a good price but quality of work is what im after most of all. I dont want to get down the road a few thousand miles later and have issues. Thanks, Eddie

If U want a economical job go to somewhere like thunderbolt or something like that or your local garage.

If U want a performance rebuild try lookig thru the yellow pages under performance parts/shops.The only ones that I can actually recommend is:
Owen
ARD--Advanced Racing Dynamics
5023 Addicks Satsuma rd, Suite b,
Houston, Texas, 77084
832-593-9140
From I-10 and highway 6, go north past keith harrow till you reach addicks satsuma. take a right turn and go about 1/2 mile down and you will see the sign and it is located on the left in a business park. I'm not sure if Owen would be the best choice or not--he is so busy, I'm not sure if he would want to take on an everyday rebuild--although DO NOT GO BY MY WORD--call and talk to the man himself.

The only other person I can recommend is (send a PM ) to Mike 1bad91Z-- he is always looking for side work and knows thirdgens as good as anybody around!!!

I would call Precision engines on I-45, they could do a stock rebuild cheaper than I could do it for and they will give you a good warranty.

Well guys, I really appreciate the honesty, and the help. Curious to know what the typical price range is to go off of for a simple rebuild.

Not the cheapest option but........
Jasper engines $1969.00 with exchange. 36 months/75,000 mile nationwide parts and labor warranty. Phn #1-800-827-7455 You can get a better price if you have a buddy with a mechanics shop and order it through his shop.

Updates:

Well actually it is a bit cheaper than ive been quoted thus far. Form Owen at the stated shop above the quote was 2200 - 2500 and three weeks turn around. DOes anyone else have any suggestions? WOuldnt I be able to get a 383 stroker for arouynd 3k anyhow? I might be out a little more than that due to electrical and a few other cheap mods needing to happen in order to accept the new block but still, that is a very decent option at these prices thus far.

They also offer a 300hp 350 ci for $2363.00. They also have 383's I think they start in the $3,500.00 range but the warranty is shorter as it is a performance engine.

I am going to be getting one of their 300 horse 350's my ta

Ask Owen about the stroker or just the 305?

When upgrading from a 305 to a 350 or 383 tpi, you need to change the injectors, knock sensor and make some computer changes. I'm not sure what exactly has to be done on a tbi, but if you put a larger engine in, it will cost more money.

I paid $400.00 for a 4-bolt main 355 delivered to my door. Checked everything myself, and it was right on the money. I know you can't beat that!

Well, no I did not talk to Owen about the 383 only the 305. I am almost positive the 305 has burnt out its rings and for about a split second was thinking about just gettign a ring job, but if you get that deep into the motor, then you might as well go all the way you know. For now my best bet is most likely just getting the 305 rebuilt, and after all of my other improvements are finished with the vehicle itself, then go for the 383. It will be a slow process but hey I am in no hurry. I appreciate all fo the help and thoughts in regards to my question.

Try giving Mike 1bad91z a shout (PM him) with your immediate plans/needs--Owen and Mike or probably the only 2 I would talk to around Houston knowing what I now know about thirdgens. Hope U get it all figures out and built up like U want.

I appreciate that zap, MIke said he was busy with other things at the moment in time, and since the car runs solid at this point besides the rings, im not overly concerned about it, just making plans and different scenarios.
Ill filll yall in on what happens next though.

wow, it takes a long time to upload stuff. oh the black firebird was also a recent purchase, and is in excellent condition all the way around. both are spare vehicles so to speak.

Yeh ever since they upgraded to the higher version of the board--they have had a lot of "issues"--I'm not a computer guy, so I don't know what the deal is--all I know is it took about 2 minutes for one of your pics to load--I'm sure my ancient 56K dial-up does not help any!
