im sure with 75 3rd gens we could get some local media coverage, and it would be good publicity for local cops....possibly sweet talking the local sheriff into a police escort for the trip to the photo shoot. gotta love southern hospitality right?

well i might have to pass on this event!!! i was so ready for this to happen. I tore my ACL,MCL and my meniscus in my right knee a few weeks ago and will be going for surgery and well i really dont think i will be comfortable on the drive i guess ill have to wait for next year

 

man, that's really disappointing. I hope the discomfort clears up so you can come, even if you end up riding in the passenger seat of your car or somebody else's

I don't know of anybody else planning on showing up early, i'll ask the austin crowd though.

If you get there first, there's a lower level parking lot farther away from the restaurant, we should fill that one up first. I'll post a picture of it soon

Hi guys. I was looking at the thread and it looks like we're going to have a pretty big gathering with lots of cars. I started thinking about parking especially since I'm not bringing a thirdgen and the parking lot at Duke's is not all that big. I was looking at the Google map an it looks like there's a large parking lot just north of Duke's (about 200~300ft) at the Williamson County Constables Office building. The image shows an empty lot, must have been taken on a weekend, so it's a possible good place for offsite parking. It would probably be all right to park there on Saturday, but maybe the gathering organizers should contact them just to be sure.

I see an engine, tires, seats and a steering wheel, what more do you need to drive it down

 

last year that was a closed down alberstons grocery store. if it's an active, open lot this year, it might be an option if we really start to overflow the parking lot at dukes.

before we do think about moving, I want to double park cars. I think we'll be fine (famous last words)

I do have a feeling that next year we'll have to plan an event with a parking lot that will fit more than 100 cars. don't want to limit ourselves

 

IF we can get some decent media coverage, then I dont see hitting 100 cars next year as that far of a stretch...

 

by the way, the parking garage we are using for the photoshoot is right next to channel 8 in austin

 

ok just a couple a questions. as usual from me.

we are going to start the shindig at 1pm. park and look around and chat some and somewhere in there eat before 3:30pm. then we are suppose to cruise to the photoshoot.

so when is the swap meet and car show suppose to happen. is it during the 2.5 hours in the parking lot or at the photoshoot. just curious cause some of us have a long way home. and would like to get back home in either daylight or dusk.

 

swap meet is informal. you meet up with the people that you know are buying or selling parts at any point in the day. Johnnydees is suppoed to be there at 1

the car show was scrapped in favor of a raffle. All prices are going to be raffled off fairly, one raffle entry per third gen registered

I was going to pay for the professional photography out of my own pocket so the "best if show" cars were going to get their pics for free, but now everybody gets their shots for free, so I decided to keep it simple and non competitive

we're going to cruise out together at 3:30 to get to the garage by 4. how long we spend there depends on how many cars go to the garage, and how good we are at forming a nice que line for the photographer

only one more. do we still need to pay tewn bucks for the high res pics or did sponsership pay for those.

for those of you looking ahead, you can see there's a small chance of rain that day. If those chances increase, I want to let you know that we have COVERED parking all worked out at another location. I doubt we'll need it, but I'll post details later in the week if it looks like we will need to move.

Two items I thought of over the weekend, one good, one bad:

1. Has anyone thought of posting in this Saturday's Statesman paper the event on the Auto Classifeids section? I see every week some club or two post an event for that day or that following week.

2. I35 and Ben White (Hwy 71/290) will closed Saturday and Sunday so any people from San Antonio and South Texas will be stuck in South Austin on I35. I would recommend posting to come up 183 or the toll on the east side of town from the Kyle area or head west on Slaughter from I35 and then north on Mopac to Round Rock from there.

are you sure I35 is going to be closed???? man that puts a kink in our chain from houston. what about 130 up. hell man after looking at the directions that takes away the 2 main freeways for us to come in on without having to go totally out of the way. someone needs to map us out a way to come. **** if i have to go 40 or 50 miles out of the way that is going to really suck.

this doesn't look like it will be a major problem. The toll roads will be free all weekend, so it might be a blessing

the only reason why this could effect somebody is for people heading directly south from downtown after the photoshoot

 

The IH35/ Ben White closure doesn't back up SB traffic. It really backs up NB traffic though. I know because I travel it every Saturday for my sons T-ball games, for the past 6wks. Now for the H-town guys, you guys have a BIG advantage! You can take the toll road for free up to G-Town from either HWY71 or HWY290. This should only back up the ppl from south, including me. But I will be heading NB from the river area bc i will be at my sons T-ball game in the AM.

 

so how will it be coming back to houston. and especially with i35 closed

 

not a problem.

when you leave the capitol, you go north on 35 for 4 miles, and take 290 east from there. you never get near the problem spots

290 to the main street austin exit past brenham blinn college exit. then to giddings for the big fuel stop. then 290 to texas 130north exit. then exit 413 fm971 towards grainger. then left on n austin ave. then right on morrow street. we should then be there.

i also do not have a 2 way radio. but i do have a phone. does anyone have nextel
