For 2013 we are bringing the roundup to the north, meaning the DFW metroplex. Our location will be the historic and beautiful Getzendaner park in Waxahachie, meaning the amenities will be as comfortable as they are beautiful. There will be trees for shade, a large gazebo with electricity, and a very nice playground for the kids. Between the shade and moving to late spring, we hope it encourages more people to come enjoy the gathering.

I'm thinking about going, but that's a long way to drive my old Firebird in hot weather. I'm waiting to see what some of the other Austin area owners are going to do. There was some talk about having a 3rd Gen convoy up to the gathering at our last local meet. If we can get enough people together for support, I'll probably pack up some tools and spare parts and risk the trip up there. Otherwise, I'll probably go the the gathering but not with my Firebird.

With Texas as big as it is, I know it's not possible to locate the gathering where somebody doesn't have to drive 300 or 400 miles round trip to attend. However, it might help some if the event was scheduled a bit earlier in the spring, say early to mid April, before the afternoon temps. in central Texas start pushing 100*

the temps in early may should be very mild. I doubt if it will be over 90 that day, which is a nice day in Texas. If we had it any earlier we are getting into the rainy time of the year, which wouldn't be pleasant for anybody.

Could it rain? certainly

Could it be 100 degrees? maybe, but highly doubtful.

I do think a convoy is a great idea. If you are part of the ATX facebook group, see if you can get a group going from there. I certainly hope the austin group is planning on coming. The park is far south of DFW, and probably no more than 2:30 from downtown austin, especially with the speed limit now at 75 for most of the way.

I just checked on Google maps, it's 167mi from my home to Getzendaner park, 334mi round trip. I don't have a lot of confidence that my 3rd gen would make the trip without problems. I guess it could be 4 or 5 degrees cooler up there, but we do start having days with temps in the mid 90s here in the Austin area by the first part of May, but not every day of course. At any rate, it could be a long and uncomfortable trip if the A/C goes out. I feel for those with no A/C who have to drive a long way to make it. I'd really like to go to the gathering with my Firebird. I just have to decide if I want to risk the trip in the old girl.

The average high for may is 84, and obviously the beginning of the month will be lower than the end of the month. As long as it doesn't rain, I'm expecting a very comfortable day.

We've had caravans from Dallas to Austin or Dallas to Houston the last three years, and never had one breakdown or problem. And those were in Late May or June when the temps were hotter.

Hope you can make it, I'd love to see your car in person, and we're lining up some amazing sponsors for raffle prizes. Everybody that brings a thirdgen is automatically entered in the Raffle.

No, no trailer.
But no overdrive and 4000 RPM @ 80 (not even at my stall speed yet) does not make for a very economical ride. Add in a 12 gallon tank and you can probably see the difficulty.

It is set up for a tow bar though, which I would bring, just in case of mechanical difficulties.

there is another thread for the Houston cruise. post up if you are going so we can get as many people as possible. i usually bring plenty of tools for most tasks. I also throw in 2 qts engine oil, 4qts tranny fluid, and some tbi stuff. and 1 gallon antifreeze ( green only ).

So... that weekend is right before the finals....Plus I work weekends at a warehouse....BUT I took off work, and I'm going this year! I been wanting to go for last 3 years but my camaro went out of commision on me, and boy I've been working on it this year since I got the warehouse job (Fresh rebuilt Engine+ tranny+ polyurethane kit for whole car+ sphon torque arm and crossmember+ shocks struts+etc. all still ZERO miles as they lay waiting to be start running on my spring break). So count two thirdgen camaros from being there (Mine and my dad's 89 original iroc), and a possible third if my little high school brother can make it! Pretty much I can't wait til this third gen party to see all the third gens and talk about third gens and third gen stories.....Oh boy got a little carried away sorry :')
