Yeah ok!

Considering the condition of the bearings, deep grooves showing that some metal shavings passed through the oiling system, and the fact that one of the slugs fell out with a cracked top ring.

Hmmmmmmmmm?

Actually for a minute we were having delusions of grandeur and thinking of turning it into some nice wall art.

But the dumpster was just so damn close!!!

Anyone care to venture a guess as to what may have gone through the motor or why?

You will be shocked when I tell you.

Obviously it was metal shavings of some type.

But here comes some good old fashion tech content for yall.

The so called oil cooler in most of our applications is the devils spawn. The internals of the oil cooler are designed in such a manner that they trap engine debris before the debris hits the filter, not good huh? It gets worse. The oiling system is also setup with a bypass of the filter. The bypass is used on cold starts when the oil is to thick to pump through the filter or if by chance the filter gets clogged.

So the situation is as follows:

1. Oil cooler traps engine debris
2. Under certain circumstance this debris is pumped through the oiling system while bypassing the filter
3. This is most likely the reason that Eriks bearings had excessive wear and damage.

This buildup was witnessed in both Eriks cooler along with mine.

So if anyone ever does a buildup, do not reinstall the factory cooler, for the above mentioned obvious reasons.

I sold one of those on Ebay a while back. I noticed some crud that was built up inside of it also. After some research on the "oil cooler" (it looks as though it was actually designed to warm up the oil) I decided that it served no practical purpose and sold it.
