im looking for a cheap motor to put in my car! my buddy has a 5.3L vortec chevy truck motor 295hp and 310 ft/lbs but thats going to be some fabbing and crazy stuff, im looking for something to drop into my 91 and that will bolt to my tbi. if anyone knows anyone with a cheap modified motor let me know!

you can buy a completely rebuilt high performance short block 350 from RPM engines for around $900 plus shipping. Thats what I'd do in a pinch.

 

I just got rid of a running 350 with 60K miles on it for $300... a little late but if the guy doesn't pay for it I'll have it again

what is wrong with the motor you have in your car right now? if their is nothing wrong with it then just put a cam and some ported heads on it, and you should get some power out of it. But if you are going to stay tbi then you are not going to get all that fast.

 

no i hate the tbi thats why i wanted to get different motor. i wanted to get a 350 or bigger, i never really liked the 305 and if i drop like 2-3 grand into the motor it'll be like 13s or so, but if i drop 3 grand into a 350 or buy a 350 thats all ready been souped up, then i could get better power

what could i bore the 305 out to? i might end up doing that. and i was also thinking about the lt1 swap but 4-5 grand for 275 hp stock? hell my buddy will give me his 02 5.3L that ships with 295 ponies stock, for that i'd need a newer 6 spd to bolt up to it and then have to mess with the accessories and what not

 

I think you need to sit down and calmly outline for yourself a plan of action, because it's obvious you've got no clue what you're trying to accomplish at the moment.

Btw, I say this bluntly because everyone I've seen go into a motor swap with that kind of incoherent train of thought has come out of the swap with a car slower than it was in the first place, regardless of how many cubes were added in the process.
