Big header swap problem, help!
Hey guys
So I woke up this morning and decided to take off the ole' exhaust manifolds and put on the headers that I've had for about a year now. Everything is going great until I get to the last drivers side bolt. I go to feel for it and it's already loose. Confused, I take it out and sure enough, it's sheared in half. The threads are still in the block and there's no thread sticking out. I don't know what to do here, this f-ing sucks. Anyone good with a drill and an extractor? Are we going to have to helicoil it? Any help would be greatly appreciated or recommendations for a shop to take it to.
Thanks
Tony

You might be able to getaway without that bolt but sooner or later you'll get a leak
Is this drivers side towards the front or by the firwall? wich one is it exactly??? Looks like the only option is to pull the head and heli coil it. hell better than it being a stripped spark plug hole.

of all the bolts the bolt from hell has to be the one that snaped. your gonna have to pull off the head dude unless you can pull a miracle.

Unless you can get a punch back there to tap it around. It may not be loose though.

You can be pretty sure that if the bolt broke, it's because it's in there tight. Good luck taking it out with a screwdriver.

Tony,
I would get a small punch and try & drive the bolt out with it.
And you might get it to rotate out.
I'm not far from ASU, so I might be able to lend a hand. Good luck with it.

Yeah, when I found it was broke, I was praying that when I took the manifold off there would at least be a little bit of thread or something left sticking out of the block...no dice. It's about a millimeter into the block
. I'm just gonna try to run the car without the bolt for now and if that falls through I have a shop in mind to take it to. F-ing A, why does this crap always happen to me?

I am not 100% sure on this but I think that you don't have to use that bolt hole for the headers. There are two bolt holes in that back of the head. If I am right the one that you brook is the hole farthest away from the front and the hole that you need to use is closer to the front. I will double check for you when I go out to my car.
Or you can just go outside to your car and look for yourself. IF it is stuck to the hole closer to the exhoust port then you are ****ed. I have been driving my car with out that bolt on it for a month now and it still doesn't leak
, But I think that sooner or later it will.

You can live without one bolt as long as the others are nice and tight and your header flange is thick and flat. Just be sure to use a GOOD quality gasket, like one of those copper ones, or the metal empregnated composite ones.

If his SLP headers are anything like mine, they tick if that bolt is even a little bit loose. I keep a 3/8" wrench in my glove box for this reason.
