With 350 miles on the odometer, I took the car out for a spirited drive. On a deserted stretch of country road , I came to a stop, put it in second and matted the go pedal.Immediatly the car roared a deep bellowing sound heard in the cockpit. Birds flew from the wires, small rodents headed for cover. A strange "whirring" sound seemed to come from the rear tires. I cannot confirm this as there was an acrid smelling plume of white/grey smoke coming off of them. The rear of the car moved gently from side to side as if skating on ice(though it was quite warm out). I moved down the road, noticed my speed was increasing, my rpms at 6000. The rear of the car was now getting increasingly loose(side to side motion) so I let off the gas and came to a stop. That acrid smell was still hanging inthe air(?), and I noticed what appeared to be two looong, long black stripes on the asphalt. The same width and distance apart as my tires. What the hell happened? Just a few minutes ago the car was quite docile, now this! An old hobo who had witnessed the scene said he had seen this phenomenon before. He called it "breaking traction". Interesting. Is this "breaking traction" anything like "breaking wind"? Is there a cure? Anyone else experience this somewhat thrilling(dont tell my wife) phenomenon called "breaking traction)? Do you think my car will be ok?

 

Hrm... I have witnessed this phenomenon before, and I'm sorry to say you're in for some bad news.The problem with your car is that it's a GM vehicle. I've seen this happen to MANY Chevrolets Pontiacs, and even Cadillacs. One minute they're parked, seemingly innocent, and the next BLAMO! They're breaking traction.

I'm afraid there's just no way to remedy your car of this ailment. The only cure I know of is buying a Ford.

I have the same troubles with mine.... There are no codes being thrown so I don't know where to trouble shoot either..

 

Wow, I just realized, those burnout pics are over a year old..... I guess my car has been in the garage longer than I had thought. When was the last time we ran them at Famoso?

Jeff, I think I know what's wrong. Sounds like a loose nut behind the wheel.

Me thinks Dwayne needs to plan another BBQ so we can this beast in action.
