problems with car

ok guys heres the problem i have a 1989 gta heres my problem the other day the car started to spit and sputter and the fuel pump was clanging in the tank and my air fuel ratio guage was reading really lean so I thought well their goes the pump so ON SAT. I installed a new pump strainer and fuel filter( note the car was still running and Idleing but really crappy) so after I put in the pump and stuff all I got from the motor was a little miss while turning it over and It didnt fire until I held the gas all the way down and it was spitting and backfireing until I let off than it just died and now thats all it does so I had the ignition control modual tested the one in the distributor and its fine the new 355 has only 1500 miles on it and every senson in the car has been replaced the only things not replaced were the fuel pump injectors distributor and the spark control modual so help please

Do you have a engine check light on? Check the MAF sensor or plug and also check the temp control sensor and plug.

sometimes even though the relay doesn't completely die, the relay contacts get corroded and no longer properly supply full voltage to the pump.

Hmmmm. I'd start by checking the fuel pressure. You can also try a little trick Don told me about. Disconnect the return line for the fuel rail on the front of the engine. Turn the key to "ON" and see if fuel pumps out the open line. If it doesn't it could be a bad fuel pressure regulator.

It kinda sounds like what my car did when the ignition module went bad. If the module is good, I'm not sure what else it could be. If it was the MAF, disconnecting it and trying to run the car should let you know. If the MAF is bad, the car will run better with it unlplugged. If it runs the same, then the MAF isn't at fault.
