Car got hit.
My roommate called me and said some lady backed into my daily driver bird when he was driving it. I've been thinking of selling it, but need to figure out how to use this accident to get the most out of it.
1. The car has a new Maaco paint job and is about a 7.5 / 10.
2. It has 140k miles
3. Mechanically it's a 9 / 10.
The damage is the door and mirror are FUBAR. Probably $1k damage, i dunno.
Where should I take it for estimates ( I live in Newport Bch)?
What do I do if the ins. wants to total it?
Should I buy a Camaro instead??

Insurance will most likely total it out, so you could take the money they give you and part it out, or buy it back and have it repaired - but then it will have a salvaged title.

Yeah, I think I'll take it to a regular body shop and get estimates to replace the door, then put a junkyard door and have Maaco spray it, pocket the difference.
The car will most likely be up for sale regardless what I do though, as I want to buy a daily driver 305 5spd T-top with leather....yeah I know, good luck finding one.

Well, I got an estimate for $1300 from a good bodyshop (he had a ferrari and two porsches in his car bay).
Progressive is sending someone to my house to give me their appraisal but I will try my best to jack them with the $1300 estimate I have.
I will of course repair this myself.
Door and mirror $150
Maaco spot shot $250
Money for booze and chasing women to easy my pain and suffering $900

That sucks you got hit. When I was rear ended, I did mostly the same thing. I couldn't find any place that would actually fix the bumper for less than $1000. But the insurance (both) only gave me about $450 total. So I took the $ and said screw it. I'm going to have to repaint the whole car in a year or two anyway.
