Mid-engine 3rd gen?

Hey,

I guess the whole idea sounds sorta wild. A mid engine third gen. For some reason I had a dream last night about building one.

Just out of curiosity what do you think?

Has anyone ever tried it before? Any pics?

Thanks for you input :hail: :hail: :hail:

a Fiero is a rear engine rear wheel drive setup, basiclly a front wheel drive setup in the rear.

Just to get it straight:

Front Engined refers to a car where the engine is mounted ahead of the passenger compartment. The engine may be ahead of, over, or just behind the front axle

Rear Engined refers to a car where the engine is behind the rear axle. Examples are the Porsche 911, Volkswagen Beetle, and Chevy Corvair.

Mid Engined cars differ from rear engined cars because the engine is mounted behind the passenger compartment, but in front of the rear wheels.

A Fiero is a mid-engined car. Trux is right, though that it is a front wheel drive setup mounted in the back of the car. The engine is still in front of the transaxle, so it is a mid-engined design.

It wouldn't be much different than a mid engine corvair. I've seen a few with a SBC sitting in the back seat. The best one I saw had a 455 Olds engine and transaxle from a Toronado all sitting behind the back seat.

Damn, DABE, that's a georgeous car!

Time for more definitions:

A Transaxle is a transmission that also houses the differential. Most, if not all front wheel drive setups house the differential in the transmission, thus creating a transaxle. A transaxle does not need to be mounted with the engine, as in the C5 Corvette, where the transaxle is mounted in the rear of the car.

Waa HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
That was my best mad scientist lagh. This guy says he's been sellin these kits since 86 and the manual transaxle takes the power without a problem. Also it really is a front wheel drivetrain shoved in the back so in theory his kit could be used to put a v-8 in a front wheel drive. WAAAhahahahaha!!! Now i'll have somthin to teach rice how to do it front wheel style. :lala: :lala:
