Installed Jegster sub-frame connectors!!
I just finished installing the Jegster SFC's. All I can say is WOW!! what a difference.
The significantly reduced cowl shake, jounce over bumps, and rattles is amazing. I am not regularly impressed by performance parts, but this product is impressive in the difference it made. The fit to the car was outstanding...nice and tight up against the sill lip, with nothing visible below the car. They bolted right up. I have a 3-inch Flowmaster exhaust and there is at least a 1.5 inch gap between the SFC's and the exhaust.
I did not have to hassle with the exhaust at all!!!
Another thing is that they are precisely the correct length in order that the bolt holes align to the factory welded seam of the front sub-frame. The bolts go right where the metal is the thickest....very well engineered.
Installation took about 2 hours, after which I went down to the local performance exhaust shop and had them welded in. The guy at the shop said that they were the best SFC's he has seen yet for F-bodies. He asked me where I got them, and when I said Jegs, he picked up the phone and called and ordered 5 sets right there in front of me!! He said that he gets a discount from Jegs, and that he could sell them installed for $400.00 all day long. He even did the welding for free!!
Unlike other SFC's, the Jegster's fit tight up against the sill lip. This enables them to be mig-welded to the reinforced area of the sill plate without having to take up the carpet!!! This alone is worth every penny of the $179.99 they cost.
I know this sounds like I am a Jegs employee, but, I have had a lot of performance cars over the years, and I have lost count the number of times I have ordered a 'bolt-on' product only to cut, bend, grind and cuss before it fits up. I know that making SFC's is not rocket science, but it is nice to see a well crafted product that performs as advertised and at a good price.
The GTA I just purchased is the first third-gen GM car I have owned. The obvious question now is, why in the hell did GM not install something like this on these cars from the factory!! It boggles the mind how much more satisfying it is to own a car that feels solid and planted, and that makes you want to go out and by another car from GM. I have heard a hundred stories about how these cars sound like a bucket of junk inside from all the groans, rattles and squeaks, about how they crack above the door jambs, etc........a couple pieces of boxed steel makes them go away??? Hopefully GM has learned a few things since 1988.

I was wondering the other day about the same things with GM but its inherent with the unibody design that there will be rattles and cracks from its weak design. All in the name of saving money and materials thats why there aren't any reinforcements because they were trying to get away from the frame on body design.
I noticed though that I never heard any kind of frame rattles or whatnot in my dad's 84 Olds station wagon - simple reason - its body on frame design. You're basically just framing up a unibody which is an oxymoron.

ok so i checked out my jegs catalog, im assuming you got the "bolt-in frame ties" (#550-40053) and had them welded on? im assuming so b/c its the right price and everything. my mystery rattle sounds to me like loose ground effects or something but nothing seems to be out of place. I too have resorted to waiting and watching my rearview for something falling off. Im guessing the dumb thing is just gunna rattle forever though. BOO I hate that.

Re: Installed Jegster sub-frame connectors!!
I've heard ( not sure if it's true ) back in the day factories used to put a marble or ball bearing in a portion of the car and seal the ends up so there is a constant rattle, just to have the car continually in the service department to be fixed. After numerous parts replaced the rattle is still there, only to be told it's probably something else.
maybe it's an urban myth, but I swear some cars have a handful of the bearings hidden somewhere.

When I worked at the chevy dealership, we got a van in that had a horrid rattle..... after taking apart the rear doors, the tech found a coke can, with a few rocks in it, suspended from a string...... there was also a note: "How long did it take you to find this one?".....

I thought I was in a Time Warp. At about that time frame I had the then new Spohn tube type SFC installed. After all this time my 87 IROC-Z28 is still tight and rattle free.
