lowering a convertible questions

I have a 91 RS convertible that is lowered with Eibach pro-kit springs. I wish that it sat lower. Before I bought the pro-kit i had read that sportline springs are not to be used on a vert. Why? What is the best way to further lower my car safely?

I don't know the answer to your question, but I have one for you. Do you have any pics of the car with the springs installed? Been thinking about getting the same ones for my 'vert. Thanks in advance!

Rob, I think you nailed the stance on that thing!! Why would you want to go lower? Now I know how my 'vert will look, mine's white too.

He's right - the stance looks great. I've been toying with the idea of doing this to mine.

What springs did you have before?
Did the car drop any, if so, how much?
How's the ride now?

The pro-kit replaced the original springs. The front springs were so worn out that the pro-kit actually raised the front of the car. The back was kinda jacked up before the pro-kit springs were installed so it actually came down about 1.5" inches. The people that I bought the car from used it to tow a jet ski, so I'm thinking that they installed some type of heavy duty spring. It handles and rides much better. My car is a daily driver and I probably would regret going any lower if it compromised the ride quality alot. I thought about getting 18" wheels and dropping it down on them, but I have not made up my mind. post some picks of your cars I'd like to see em

Looks good to me. Did you do any other suspension work to it? How about the struts? Are they original? I'm thinking about a 1 inch drop and 17" wheels on mine...

the struts and shocks were replaced with KYB GR-2. We put a Lakewood adj panhard bar to keep the driveshaft centered.

89 Drop Top,

It looks real good. I wished I could get a SS hood for my car. Maybe someday. Do you have a SLP cat back?

Thanks Rob, Yeah, that's the SLP cat back system. Good eyes. It needs to be adjusted, the rear hanger broke on the car, and the tailpipes are hanging a little low, so I have to replace it. The SS hood is actually for my coupe, but I was so anxious to see how it looked, I just had to put it on the 'vert!

nikh23,

Man you car looks good. I figured someone would know the answer to lowering a vert on here. I figure that Eibach does not reccomend the sportlines on 'vert is too much chassis flex> I can only guess that is why. If my theory is correct, could some SFC's cure that problem. I don't know much about suspension, so maybe someone who does will see my response and think what a dumbass and post the solution

you bring up a good point, although i'm not sure if its all about chassis flex. SFC's are definite must on these cars, verts especially, i haven't installed a set yet but those are the first thigns i'm putting onto my car as soon as i get home from school. I think the sportlines are not intended for use on the verts because the verts weighed a little more than the t-tops and hardtops did. Maybe the extra weight would have a dramatic effect on the way those particular springs would respond in a negative way. Not sure how to explain it, but I just think that the extra drop that those springs provide would be harmful with the extra weight that the verts have. Does anyone get what i mean? Its just a theory anyways, and if no one has any other thoughts i might just email Eibach to get their opinion

heres another of my car btw heh

nikh23,

Your theory sounds better than mine. I tried to think about the main diiferences between verts and coupes and all I came up with was the flex. But it would seem to me that weight would have more of an effect than flex
