Am I the guinea pig?
I saw these things in the new Jc Whitney catalog and am wondering if they work. They're on page 84 they say you can lower the vehicle by 3" by putting these things on they seem to be a small spring compressor that can stay on to lower the car. Has anyone else used these? There are 2 different models and either way you can buy they are only about 30$$. I'm very interested to see if these are true to their claim or

we sell those at pepboys. i duno how well they work, ive ever seen anyone buy them yet. and the on to the right in the picture looks more like a spring compressor then a lowering thinging.
I use those to pre-load the right spring in my car a little. Everyone spends all this money of rear suspension trick pieces...
Pre-load the Right spring, box the stock torque arm, get a set of tubular lower control arms with poly bushings and reinforce the transmount.
I have seen this setup go 1.37 in a street car.

Don't waste your money on the clamps. Wait, save up and buy proper lowering springs.
I ran the $5.99 piece on a '69 El Camino I had several years ago. After cutting the front coils I needed to lower the rear of the car to match. The clamps were a cheap solution.
They did the job, but I don't recommend using them. They tend to "walk" around on the springs in the course of daily driving. This results in the clamps ending up side by side on the spring, rather than opposite each other. This then causes the spring to bow instead of compress straight down.
I had to monitor the rear springs all the time and periodically repostion the clamps.

Ya... I dont know how good those would be because even if they lowered it and stuck on (I picture them coming off when the spring is compressed and putting a hole through the lower A arm or strut) they would reall muck up the ride because if you compressed 3 out of like 5 coils then 1/2 the spring would ahve a totally different spring rate than the other coils.

I saw a set of those on a customers M3 once. After I made fun of him for a looooong time, he admited he couldn't afford to lower it the right way so he got those things instead. He said they worked okay, but I wouldn't use 'em. Like RB said: GHETTO
Those things are ghetto. My old roommate had them on his malibu and he had a hell of a time getting them on there not to mention like said they walk around the spring and you always have to fix them.
92 - How can you afford an M3 but not afford to lower it correctly????

I don't know, man. I guess the clown spent all his money on his note, gas, and tires that he had no money left over for quality parts. Sucks for him...
