Finishing suspension: suggestions
Finishing suspension: suggestions
Allright, last year, I did the works, almost the entire Spohn suspension:
Moser 9" with 3.70 posi rear and disc brakes
Lower control arms
Panhard Bar
Torque Arm
Sub-Frame connectors
Driveshaft loop
Also got:
P-S-T Polygraphite front end kit
KYB GR-2 Shocks/struts
Eibach Pro Kit springs
6-point roll cage
Now, when I put on the 9" rear the stock sway bar wouldn't fit, so I threw it out. Since then I have been wondering if it would be worth it to buy Spohn's sway bars and the relocation brackets for it, but is it really necessary with my current setup? Also, since they now have a Wonder Bar, I was contemplating putting that on as well. The last thing is the shocks and struts... they are kinda cheap, but I was running low on funds, so thats what I got. Is it worth it to cough up the dough on Bilsteins? Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

From what I've gathered on shocks, almost all shocks are pretty stiff from the beginning. Where the money comes into play is how many miles after that they last. I remember reading that the cheap ones, while not being as good as the higher-quality ones (Konis, Bilsteins), also do not last nearly as long. In my opinion, why skimp on something as important to the suspension as shocks? Do the job right the first time around. You'll thank yourself later.

OK, a couple of things.
don't waiste your money on KYB, if your going for performance, get a performance shock. second, what is the intended use for this car?
also, i am not a fan of the progressive rear coils that you get in the lowering spring kits. the spring rates and shocks are really going to determine how the car behaves, and you want to pick rates for your application, a strip only car is going to have much diffrent needs than an OT car, and again much diffrent for a street car.

Well, I guess the car is for street/strip use since it is still my daily driver. I want it to be an all around performance car that is tame enough to still survive on the street. I want it to have a quick 1/4 mile, good brakes, and to corner like a sports car. So far it works pretty good, I just need to fine tune it.

i think your on the right track, better shocks, and some linear springs are where its at.
