Thunk-Thunk-Thunk- When I push my car side to side.
I kept hearing a noise emitting from the rear of my 86 T/A. When I push on it at the rear quarter side to side I can hear the thunk or "play".
Is this emitting from inside the rear end via the axles or is this something I can adjust from the wheel hub area.
Too much slack somewhere.
Thanks.......

Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
Probably just the axles slipping back and forth in the carrier splines. There is a little bit of movement allowed in them. Nothing to worry about, unless you suddenly get about 3 feet of play

Thanks for the ideas guys. I DID have that 3 feet of play in an El Camino of 1979 Vintage. Looking in my rearview and saw my tire riding about 3 feet outside of the fender well.
Regarding the T/A it just started bugging me pulling into a driveway is the most noticable.

I was hearing a little popping or klank when I would go over certain bumps. It was the panhard bar... I hadn't got it all tightened when I did the exhaust. There is also the slack in the rear, but I don't think that should make that noise unless you had a huge problem. I'd say that you should start by checking the spare tire and the exhaust. Then move on to the suspension.. could also be the wheels. Maybe loose??
