I love days off you can get some things started. The S.T.B. is all 4130 and the weight is just over 11lbs what do you think.

Congratulations on your home made STB. It looks really good. I only wish I knew how to weld.

Looks like a chassis cage in the front. If you really need that much strength, I say weld those pieces on the side to the body and make them permanent. Then make the removable STB part just connect the strut towers. But thats just how I would do it. Everyone has their own style. Nice!!

The STB is not for me (my car in the picture ) its for my kids car and needs to be a bolt in unit. It still needs to be finish welded and power coated before installing it on her car.

I wanted to tie the firewall and the core suport to the strut mounts and thats what happened. Just trying to get the front end a little stiffer and thats good for a road type car.

Finish welded and removed from the jig ( my car ) and test fitted on a all stock 90 Camaro and it clears everything.

Very nice work.

I was thinking of firing up my welder to build a custom STB myself since I am having trouble finding anything that will clear my Superram. But I definitely did not have anything like your masterpiece in mind.

When are you going to build the rollcage?

OH I almost forgot

how are you going to pull the engine (if needed) if that 10 point brace is welded in place, food for thought

well if it gets welded in place, he has to drop the crossmember holding the motor, would be really the only way.

The brace is a bolt in type, 10 bolts hold it to the car and thats the reason for the flat plates on the ends of all the tubes.

lmao.

The benifits would be very little flex for the front suspension. Plus, if your ever in a serious front end colision, I could imagine that would really make the front end much safer and stronger.

My goodness thats a work of art. What fathers do for their daughters these days.

I just noticed it looks like he's not going to be able to use the SLP air intake system, because a bar is covering the airbox.

Would you even be able to take the battery out?

Sure what do you need. The tubes fit very tight and the only way I can see someone making one is on a car for a jig.

Yes, It is like Lower and upper wonder bars, Toe or tunnel brace, oversize core support cross brace and 10 point subframe connectors. The stiffer the car the better.

Yes, I made super ram runners for TPI and others people have them and custom over the core support cold air intake and other parts if it's a fun project.

I used my car for the fab time, Her car has a standard TPI intake for it.

The STB unbolts to get to all the stuff under it.

How thick is that center piece of flat? Unless it's 1/4", seems like it would just flex with basically no structure to it and ~7" span.

Pretty cool though, I wish the stuff I fabricate would come out nice and clean looking like that.

The center is two parts of .125 thick 4130. So it's 1/4" thick in the center.

I am not sure how strong that piece is but what happens if the car is in a high speed frontal impact?
I'd be worried that the 2 bars near the firewall would come into the car and injure the passenger and driver.

If the piece is really strong, I'd think that the bolts would rip out of the flat mounting tabs and the whole unit would shift towards the back of the car into the passenger compartment.

How did you bend that tubing? You have a tubing bender to use? Or did you use a torch to soften the bend area & form it around some wood blocking?

agree with teh front end collision concern. Isn't the front end designed to crumple on these cars to absorb energy from an impact?

not ******* on your work at all - I think it looks amazing and given how wobbly third gens are, this looks like it would add awesome rigidity

But yes, this must stiffen the front of the car massively, although it looks odd and i can't imagine working on the engine with this in it!

Performance is probably there, but practicality isn't. Cool design nonetheless!
