Grant wheel tech bs'ing me??

Yeah...I should have checked to see if they made an adaptor for a 91 camaro for their removable wheel before I bought it.

I just thought they would. ANyway...their tech guy said that they only made adaptors for 89 and younger camaros....said it would not work even my my airbag had been deployed (or removed).

But., I know you can transplant a 92 steering wheel to an 84 (by someone here who did it). And that you can also replace yours with a 4th gen wheel (any year thirdgen).

What gives??

i asked this before, and someone told me they say this simply because of liability issues. For instance, if you got in an accident while using one of their steering wheels and were hurt, you could sue because they instructed you to remove your airbag. Anyways, the person i asked here said to simply get the adaptor for one of the earlier ones and use it. I haven't gotten mine yet, but that's what I planned on doing.

you have an airbag, and want to get rid of it for a grant steering wheel??? I think it is foolish to get rid of something that could save your life. Especially for acrappy grant wheel, at least get a momo or lacarra

I find the trick is not to crash the goddamn car. An airbag's life saving ability is negligable at best, especially for a car equipped with a racing harness, where it wouldn't even let you head get close enough to the wheel for it to have any effect.

I will also be ditching the stock airbag wheels for a Grant wheel. Grant makes the best steering wheels in my opinion, their selection is great.

if you have a harness i guess its not such a bad idea, but i would rather have both. I assume you ALWAYS wear your harness. have you looked at Momo and LaCarra? there wheels make grants look pretty shabby!

From what I've seen of momo and lacarra, they look like they're really going for an aftermarket foreign car look. I wanted a simple, classic american muscle car wheel which is why I got the 3-spoke Formula GT. And...not sure is momo or lacarra has a removable wheel or not. I like the grant security design.

And yes I thought about safety issues. But if I wrecked my thirdgen, I'd rather be dead anyway.

No really, a removable wheel is the most effective theft prevention device. I mean jeeze, you can buy a little blinking light to make people think you have an alarm. I put myself at risk, yes. But I'd give that just to feel confident that my car is still parked where I left it last night.

The 'first' generation air bags aren't they great anyway. I agree, the Grant Formula GT wheel is very nice...

Thats exactly how my new wheel looks except it has 2 holes per spoke.

Just waiting on the adaptor kit now. I tried an autozone wheel puller previously and the bolts they gave me were so weak that one end snapped off flush in the steering wheel. So now I'm going to try a universal gear puller to get the wheel off.

While we're all here, does anyone know anything about the Grant removable wheels starting to slip after a while. There was another thread about this but it seemed inconclusive.

to put a grant steering wheel into my 91 camaro I had to shave down my steering collumn plastic. By that I mean the outside plastic shell around hte collumn. It seems that the spacer is a little to short to perectly fit the 91-92 camaros.

Cool...always good to know exactly what you're getting into.

Whas there a particular part you had clearance problems with? I know the adaptor kit has a "post cover" (that little black saucer-looking thing that fits b/t the wheel and the adaptor. Was it that?

yea same on my 89 iroc i had to trim down the plastic that sits right on top of the colom as soon as you get the wheel and stuff off. the only thing that happens if you dont trim it is your black rounded cover in your kit will rub against the colum.
