Last rim question b4 i buy them .

I am goin to be buying boyd coddington smoothies in 17x9.5 all the way around. I am buying this size for the performance , the handling and traction , and also the looks , plus the price isnt too bad either. I want to know what size to get the bs in. I know the rear is 5.5 bs and the front should be 5.25 correct. I dont wanna get 5.5 up front and then have to run a spacer. I know the firehawrk rims are 5.5 all around. I know that someone i forgot their name, sorry , is running them in this combo, I think in the future i want to run a bear 12 inch brake setup, but for now i want to have them fit right. Im really nervous about dropping a grand on just rims , i want to be right. The guy running the 5.25 bs said that he wanted them like that because 5.5 was a little too close to the tie rod for his liking.I just want to be sure of what to get . And kandied is their any way you can get me a lower price i remember you saying that you might be able to get someone a lower price and i was just wondering. thanks. Jeff K

not on a 17 as they are priced pretty accordingly with boyd anyhow.

if your going to go with baer up front the brakes do add almost a 1/4" up front. 9.5's all around will not be in the fender wells because of this and if you get the offset wrong you will have the fronts our further then the backs. may not be noticeable to some but you will notice it and it will bother you forever.

however if you make the slight adjustment planning for the brakes and never get them the worse that happens is the backs are out a little further.

ask guys running 9.5's. i don't like them so even with the most extreme inner backspacing they don't sit how i like in the front.

it says in your previous post you know what size to get...just adjust the front accordingly depending on what your going to do. i'd maybe adjust it for just a bit under 1/4" if your going to get the brakes. i can't give you advice on that though as i'm running 4.5 back spacing up front and 6.5 rear.

Personally, I think your best solution would be to use 9.5 in the rear and maybe something a bit thinner up front, like maybe 17 x 8. That will save you some headaches.

yeah it would save some headaches, but i dont drive the car all the time and i want the car to handle even better than it does now. Its also impressive to have the big rims all around.

it's impressive to have the tires but it isn't impressive to see them the way you will. my car handles just as good as the 9.5/10.5 combo with my 8/10 combo.

your seriously not going to notice what it can do for you on the street. you should do what you want, i'm just trying to save you the headaches i went through. you'll be alot happier however its your car.

well i really want 9.5 rims, but i dont road race this car. I just wanted them to be able to say i have this big a rim and its this wide. I thought it would make the car handle better too. But the thing is that chevyken did it with 5.25 and he has no rubs and his car is lower than mine. I mean they will fit otherwise they wouldnt sell the firehawk rims in 9.5 all around , right? SO i cant really go wrong with the 5.25 , it will move it out towards the fender a little more and then i wont have the tie rod problem.

why not get them the 4th gen size and get the spacers for the back? the spacers are 150 from SLP...

also, im happy your going with 17s. i cant stand anything larger on these cars. its sensable to get 17s for a sports car. cheaper tires and you can also run a larger tire

spacers suck , they look like hell. And they arent as strong as a rim with the right offset. And they are custom rims so i can get them in the offset i want. Thats whats great about boyd coddington.

very true about the custom billet wheel in general. you'll be much happier this route then going with a cast 4thgen offset wheel and adapters which would end up costing you almost the same.

as far as boyd though that's a whole nother story...use to like his work and what it represented. after seeing his shop on television i'm not so sure anymore. however the prices he charges for his wheels are considerably lower then many and the quality so far has been nice so i say go with it.

good luck with your final decision.
