front and rear wheels?

I have gta wheels on my car and there are 2 fronts and 2 backs. What could happen if I put 2 fronts on the back?Since they are different offsets the fronts stick out a little more when they are on the back and I like the way it looks.

yeah most likely you hear things happen to the front.

like if u put the ones made for the rear on the front u hear stories of the tires rubbing. some tire shops dont realize that the rims are made for front only and rear only, so getting tires rotated is not fun and more costly.

its a better idea to keep the fronts on the front and the rears on the rear.

I have 4 "front" 16x8s on my '91. I kinda like the look, but mainly I wanted to be able to rotate front-rear to keep treadwear more even. I have 245 50ZR16s and I have no problems with the fender lips or any type of rubbing. I plan to use my rear wheels for drag radials to take to the track.

I have different wheels on my car right now then my irocs just cheapys and they are the same off set all around. I hate the look of the rears sticking out more just doesnt look right to me maybe if the rear tires were wider it would look ok. I just like the look of all four tires even and wide all around on our cars .

Hey TheGreatJ,
You can still rotate your tires with different front and rear rims. You just have to have them removed from the rims and rebalanced.

Yeah, I asked this same question a long time ago, here:

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=112803

If you watch ebay auctions in which they separate fronts and rears into separate auctions, you'll see that the fronts almost always sell for more than the rears. And that's also why wrecking yards and resellers usually won't break up sets, cause they get stuck with a bunch of rears that they can't move.

Exactly. I'm a professional mechanic, and one of the few things we don't do at my shop is mount tires. We have a balancer, but no mounting machine. This used to mean taking it to someone else for tire rotation....now I can rotate and balance them myself and know it's done right. Plus it's cheaper, and I can do it at work instead of having to take it somewhere and wait on it.

What can also be done is that the guys running a rotor and hub brake system (IE: LS1, C4, C5, etc.) can run rear wheels on all 4 corners since they have more backspacing than the fronts and that added offset will just about equal the added track increase that the big brake kits give.

I never thought about that. I'm planning the 4-wheel LS1 upgrade this winter so maybe I should keep all 4 of these "rear" wheels instead of selling 2 and putting track tires on the other 2.....

Cmon you could always brake all four tires down by hand and then mount them by hand. You should be able to do in maybe 4 hours. Add a half hour for the balance and youve just wasted 4.5 hours of your life. I definatly understand you not wanting to take your rims to a quick tire place. I wouldnt let most of those guys wash my car.
