Front pass. side tire hitting inner fenderwell

Like the topic says the outermost tread on my front pass. side tire is rubbing. I checked the ball joints and there is a small ammount of detectable slop in them but it really doesnt seem like enough to cause the tire to make contact. I also noticed that the bump stops on the lower control arms are contacting the subframe from hard cornering so thats another clue. Im assuming that my problem is probably jsut worn ball joints but is there anything else I should look at that would cause this?

Theyre 225/60/R15's on stock rims... Its unusual to only see it on one side. I dont remember seeing the wear spot before but it could have been there for a while.

My car has been doing that for about 5 years now since I put 16s on it. Hasn't seemed to hurt anything.

There's exactly one variable in that whole equation that I (and you too) have complete control over.....

The driver.

Convince him not to crank the steering wheel all the way to the stops so often.

even stock 16" cars do that if you crank the wheel hard enough while going fast enough for the tire to deflect.

edit:

for example, whipping into or outof a parking lot..

or going up a driveway incline at full steering lock.

Might want to check the lower control arm bushings! 1/4 in. of play on both ends is 1/2 in total play. That's enough to make them rub. I have the stock size 245-50-16's on my 88 WS-6 form. and new bushings stoped mine from rubbing. It always seems the pass. side starts first becaue that side seems to catch more hell than the driver's side cause' that's where all the holes in the road are!

Its odd that it just appeared, though. I guess I mustve made a hard turn at some point that caused contact...
