Few 4th gen > 3rd gen ?'s

First off can I use the sway bars off a 4th gen on a 3rd gen? If so is any modification needed to make this work?

Also how would I swap over the whole front braking system from a 4th gen to a 3rd gen?

Can I swap a 4th gen rear end into a 3rd gen along with the disc brakes? If so what kind of extra work am I looking at and can I use the 4th gen torque are or do I have to buy an aftermarket torqe arm.

Do 4th gen a-arms work in a 3rd gen? Basically could I use everything out of the front end of my 4th gen for my 3rd gen? K-member, brakes, a-arms, etc.

Thanks in advance for the answers.

Yes, but honestly, why would you put 4th gen swaybars into a 3rd gen? The 4th gen bars are so tiny compared to the 3rd gen bars. Well, at least compared to my WS6, but my buddy's '97 Z28 and the '98 Trans Am that I got my rear off of had tiny tiny rear swaybars.

Yes, I'm actually in the process of it. Basically unbolt your old rear and bolt the new one on and mate the brake lines. The parking brake cables need a bit of work but can be done. I'm using an LS1 rear-end off a '98 Trans Am for the big LS1 rear brakes. I'm going to attempt it using the stock proportioning valve, but I do have an in-line pressure adjuster that I may or may not need. You can use all your stock 3rd gen stuff. The only thing is the brake lines really because most (if not all) of the 4th gens have 4-channel ABS and thus use separate lines for each caliper from the front of the car, whereas 3rd gens run one line from the front to the back and have it split to two lines at the axle. It just requires a little adapting, but not bad at all. My tires are going to stick out about an inch and a half on both sides though until I get some 4th gen rims..

Front sway bars are not interchangable. Neither are the A arms or anything else with the front suspension. 4th gen brakes, rear ends and components are all interchangable with the right amount of work and parts.

Ah this is true, I was thinking of the rear only. In any case, the 4th gens have smaller bars.

I was also pretty sure none of the front suspension could be used.

I knew the front brakes could work with a bit of work, as I eventually plan to do the same (when my cheap eBay D/S rotors crack once I install them)

well the car is an RS so are we sure the sway bar is smallar? could I get stock 3rd gen sway bar off a 3rd gen V8 car that would be bigger for the front? Also if I stuck with the stock front brakes could I upgrade them somehow and how would I go about making 4th gen wheels adapt?

If you get 4th gen wheels (and rear axle) all youll need is spacers for the front.

Any IROC, Z28 or WS6 3rd gen car will have the biggest sway bars. Look for the WS6 bars. They are the biggest.

Rear bars only, and they bolt right in with no mods needed. They're smaller since the 4th gen cars are lighter, they don't have as much weight to control.

Read this....ALL of this so we don't get repetitive questions. There's also complete kits available to put LS1s on your car.

It will bolt right in but you may have to do a bit of fab work on the e-brake cables. '93-97 rears will bolt right in with no modding necessary. The torque arm is a direct fit but you can also use your 3rd gen arm as well.

4th gens aren't lighter than a third gen, they're heavier.

Agreed.

If you ever look at a stock 4th gen going around a corner, they have tremendous body roll. They just designed the 4th gens more for ride quality than handling..

Sorry...my mistake...I was thinking about all the "plastic" panels on the 4th gens and jumped to a conclusion.

dont you know plastic is heavier then aluminum. If you dont believe me look at all the aluminum intensive cars, compared to all the plastic cars, aluminum ones are consistently lighter.

Wait a sec...What aluminum is used on these cars? All the body panels and suspension components are steel. OOps..well, save for the bumper and front fascia.

Wish they were aluminum....not as many rust problems.
