Shocks and struts quality and price list

Hey guys my 82 t/a needs some shocks and struts and I'm wondering what's the best out there.I know bilstein and koni are the best,But are way out of my price range at the moment.

So after doing some research on whats out there. Here's what i found, please throw in your 2 cents ON THE BEST DEAL thanks

1.Monroe sens-a-traks $32.99 each front strut & $40 for both rear shocks $110 w/tax for all 4.

2.Gabreils front struts $60 for both.
Gas ryder shocks $50 for both= $110 for all 4.

3.kyb gr-2 all 4 struts and shocks $150
OR kyb gas a just SHOCKS ONLY $85 for both

4.Sachs front struts only $70-80

All i can find for now

If you're on a budget go with KYB.

of all the above mentioned shocks/struts, the kyb's are the only performance minded ones. I have had mine for a few thousand miles and i'm satisfied so far. they're pretty stiff though, so keep that in mind.. the others will most likely be more mushy.

I like the KYBs also and I'm pleased with their performance.

I am on my second set of KYBs.
The ride quality with KYB was better with IROC springs than with the Jamex springs I am currently running.
100k miles later and I am still happy with them. Good for the street and wallet.

Dollar for Dollar KYB seems to be the best. I have had my shocks for a little over a year and my struts about 8 months and have not had a problem with them. I would like to go with full out drag shocks next though.

Just my $.02

I have KYB's on my Iroc, they don't seem like high perf. shocks, more like stock replacements. I have put alot of miles on them, for a low range shock they are a good value. but, next time I buy it will be bilstien. The factory Iroc bilstiens (Stock) were better than KYB's (My car came with bilstiens). Monore, etc.. are not in the same league as tokico, koni, bilst. Depends what you want out of your car, your preferences and so on.

I would not recommend Gabriels ever. The shocks on my old 89 RS were shot so I went to get a set of those just to cover for the time being. Well, I dunno if it was the wonderful installation skills of the dip****s at Pepboys, or the poor quality of the product, but I went through 3 sets within 6 months. (Thank G0D for the warranty). They offered only minimal improvement over what seemed like the original shocks and struts on my 140K mile car.
I have no experience with KYB's. However, those are what I am going with until I can save for the Bilsteins.

Just so you can evaluate exactly how "expensive" the Bilsteins are, I have had them on my Z for 40,000 miles. I called Bilstein, and asked them what they would cost to "freshen up" (change oil, general go through) and the guy told me "if you don't want valving changes, and they aren't leaking, they are fine. They are built for severe service. You will NEVER wear them out on a street car."

...suddenly, the don't seem quite as expensive.
