Rear Coil overs

Is anyone here running rear coilovers? Post pics please?
I want to see how they work. do they just replace the rear shocks, or do they require custom brackets?

It requires custom brackets to distribute the coilover load back to the spring can next to the shock mount. There have been many cases of that chassis mount area completely corroding and busting through just from the pressure of the rear shock- never the less a coilover holding the weight of the car.

I am aware of this, I punched an air shock right through the shock mount on an 82 I had. I was thinking of using a rear shock tower brace tied into the rear legs of the roll bar, but I'll check out these brackets. Do you have a link to a set of them?

They are designed & prototyped but not quite ready for production yet- very soon though

That is Spohn's kit to make a direct retrofit. Looks like a straight forward deal. I will be making the upgrade soon(front and rear).

Re: Rear Coil overs

that looks like a good deal a little more engineered for the third gen. body than the QA1 kit i may look into that one a little more. i want to put a 8.5 10 bolt rear end in mine maybe do it all at the same time.

Re: Rear Coil overs

If you've got a cage and are planning a rear swap, why not run the custom type set-up? Unless you hack job it in there it's gonna look and work better than just band-aiding onto factory swiss cheese.

Re: Rear Coil overs

I made my own set. Just bought a set of qa1 coilovers that were the same length as my shocks. Cut a 1/4 inch piece of steel for the reinforcement of the upper shock mounts. Basically I copied Spohns parts. You can piece it together cheaper. The adjustability is great.
