Tow with a v6?
I'm getting ready to buy a truck to haul my drag car around in. Does anybody have any big problems with a V6 truck? I know a V8 would be way nicer for getting on freeways and hills and stuff, but I am looking to save some money here - in initial cost and in gas. Thanks.

I would atleast go for an older I6.. Plenty of power. As for v6, it's hit or miss, just try to find on with low miles.

Get a 1987 F-150 with the 300ci I6 2wd 4spd, I used to have one and you cannot break them things. Thats the best straight 6 ever made and the only engine crediable to FORD

I have an '89 Chev 1/2ton truck that I drive daily and am continuously hauling weight. I am a tile and marble contractor.
This truck is a V8 and is full size. When it was new and stock it could not handle the job braking wise and the stock suspension could not handle a load safely and comfortably over 1400 lbs max. 1400 was pushing it, I really felt safer in the 1200lb range.
I have a Vette that i used to trailer around alot autoXing and that plus payload of tires, fuel, tools, and supplies weighed about 4000 + the trailer weight of about 2500. The truck stock could not pull it safely. I built the truck with airride, built the motor, added a 9" rearend with 3.70's and most importantly even though the trailor had brakes (bullsh*t if you get my drift) I added rear disc brakes onthe full size truck. even with about 300 rwhp this truck has a hard time pulling the Vette and trailor up a steep grade. It also has a Becool radiator and aftermarket auto tranny coolers (2) to keep the temps normal.
I would strongly suggest buying the ost heavy duty truck you can afford and I certainly would NEVER trailor a car with a midsize or smaller truck. Fullsize or nothing. Trust me, I have been hauling around 3000lb payloads of tile for about 20 years now.

I own an 04 Ranger with the 4.0 4x4 and pulled my GF's RS many times on a 16 foot dovetail before with no problems.

I've pulled my '70 from Erie, PA with a '05 Trailblazer with the I6, it did fine but obviously bogged a bit coming thru the hills of W. VA. Other than that it did fine. I have a '93 Silverado 4x4 with a 206K mile 350 and the Trailblazer pulls better than it does.
