buddy got an 84 berli...no rear sway bar?!?!?!?
so my buddy got an 84 berlinetta a few weeks ago. it's out at my house cause he has no place to put it at his apartment. well, i was under it and the car has no rear sway bar! i though, well, maybe someone took it off, but there is no brackets on the car for endlinks and has no indication on the rear that a sway bar was ever attached to it! it won't be hard to put a new one on, but i figured i'd share my findings...strange stuff huh?

WILD!
we'll be putting on one as soon as i quit being lazy and go help him...it's so funny seeing him work on his car cause he's very uneducated about it all, but soaks up all the info he can like a dat-gum sponge! it's pretty cool actually though. i figure maybe one off of a z28 or something, nothing too huge, cause he just want's to cruise in the car, and i know he'll push it hard occasionally through turns and whatnot. i want to make sure he is safe in it. not to mention it will help out at the track if he ever goes. we'll put it on with the new 3.42 rear i am putting in for him.

is there sarcasm in that? i hope so!
i don't know why they were called berlinetta's, but i do know that it was GM's attempt at making a luxury car out of a camaro.

Berlinetta the fastest camaro? HA if that was so then i wouldnt have the 2.8l V6 in this thing, although i love this thing to death, And yes, this was GM's horable attempt to make the camaro into a luxury car.

i have the base coupe just the same as a Berlinetta. It also has no rear sway bar but i got one off a GTA- firebird at the wrecking yard. it was $10.00, but have been to lazy to slap it on. and my bird is a LG4 305. yeah that was a horrible attempt that GM made. they were really looking for the "space-age" look on them, with the ditgal dash and what not.

I think the digital dash is cool and all but I really hate the turn signal lever! Ya and the blinking at 85 sucks. But I think they are cool, but how hard to fix if something gos wrong?

Back when I was building my current drift car I was pretty shocked to find that out also. I was about to put on my sway bar then noticed it had no mounting locations or anything. Haha...I had to take them off my old car and move them over.

All 3rd gen have mounting points for sway bars. Berlinettas never came with sway bars (from the factory). I had to tap the holes, but the holes are there. You have to tap them if your car wasnt a Z/28 or an optional f-41 car pre 85. The sports coupe came standard with the f-41 suspension 86 and after.

I got some factory bolts out of a junkyard, I matched the threads with it, I bought a snap-on tap. I will check and let you know.
From the factory everything is drilled, You have to tap some things, its like my berlinetta is an 83, they came out with the L69 in 83, my core support was drilled for the r hand air duck. Now N 82 WOULDNT BE DRILLED. I will let you know.
Thanks Randy

The factory bolts are self-tapping, M10x1.5x32.

You're looking for a M10-1.5 metric tap. McMaster-Carr Supply Co. sells it as p/n 8303A2 $6.53 in un-coated HSS. Remember you'll also need to pick up a pair of the rear sway bar end link mount brackets and sway bar bushing retainer brackets. Of course you'll need a new set of sway bar end links too.
