Stripping weight
I'd like to trim my car down as much as possible, where to start? I already removed the useless backseat, and am going to work on the sound insulation, the spare tires going to be gone soon to. I'd like to install some drag brakes up front, but the car needs to be pretty light for them to be safe. Also skinnier front wheels and tires are in the plan, and I'd like to keep the front sway bar. Anyone know of any other free or cheap weightsaving measures?

I can list a few pages of weight savings. Is this a track only car or does it need to be kept street safe?
Easiest way to look at it is if it isn't required to make the car fast or safe, take it out.
My car is strip only and I've removed so much stuff that it could never be made into a street car again.

-removed all A/C & heat components (60lbs)
-removed useless rear seatbacks (15lbs)
-installed CORBEAU racing seats (15lbs)
-removed spare tire and jack (40lbs)
-changed spoiler (25lbs)..stock TA foam is 29.5lbs
-removed smog/AIR system & passenger side accy bracket (25lbs)
-relocated battery to back (35lbs front to back)
-added headers (13lbs)
-LT1 aluminum heads (60lbs)
-Mini-starter (10lbs)
-removed catalytic converter (15lbs)
-Fiberglass hood (50lbs)
Straight copy and paste off of my Cardomain site. There's still more that can be cut I'm sure. I'm trying to keep the car as streetable as possible. I will probably be putting the defroster back in though to make it possible to drive on cool days when there is going to be moisture on the windows. I want to weigh my car, it should be really close to 3000lbs (without me) once I put the fiberglass hood on.
The rear seat bottoms are worth like 3lbs total, and the belts are another like 5lbs, so I left them in there. Had them out and then realized how nice it is to have back seats sometimes when you have to drive the girlfriend and her little brother around. Took the seat backs out back there, that's the heavy part, and pillows back there make it more bearable.
I don't have much more planned in terms of weight reductions except for my tubular suspension stuff (rear LCAs, aluminum PHB). Eventually I'll buy some tubular front A-arms and probably swap to coilovers, but that's not in the plans for awhile.
My car will actually gain weight by spring, in terms of finally installing my Spohn SFCs, and possibly a roll-bar/cage.

I have been racing at 3320lbs. with me in my 86Z. I have gone 9.33 @ 148 on 175 shot NOS. NHRA legal.
I still have the crash beams in my doors and I still haven't pulled everything out under the dash. Stock carpet in the rear of car but I will be getting an ACC piece to replace. I will be shootin for 8's next season.

The spoiler is defiantly right on. That stocker was a heavy POS. I can't believe that GM put a piece of painted rubber in direct sun light and expected it to hold up.
As for the crash beams, if you're going to be installing a cage it's pretty safe to take them out.

Based on numbers on VFN Fiberglass's website, they say their bolt-on hoods weigh in at 17lbs and their pin-on hoods weigh 12lbs or so.
Don't have my ASCD Ram Air 1 hood yet (its at a buddy's house) so I haven't gotten a chance to weigh it yet.

Few days old, but bringing it back up.
Stock 3piece 91 camaro rear spoiler, 6lbs.
GM hood blisters, 9lbs.
Anyone know the weight of the 82-83 camaro fiberglass hood?

Although I can unbolt the hood from the hinges and lift it off if I need to, it's not something I would want to do as a complete lift off hood at the track. It would still be a 2 man job to easily take the hood off and on. It's still lighter than a steel hood!
