Best tire size for 17x8 with 0mm offset

I am thinking of getting the American Racing Ansen wheels. They come in a 17x8 size with 4.5" backspacing. Should I run 275/40/17 on the front and rear. From what I've been reading on the search I've seen people go larger, but unsure of what backspacing they had. Thanks.

i run 17x8's too. go 245/45/17. 275's would only work in the back, and you want to be able to rotate your tires. 240's look to skinny on the wheel. 255's well....thats just a wierd size.

I have 275's on my front 17x8.5's. I think the sidewall bulges to much. So 275 on a 17x8 should not be considered. 245's will be fine, as long as you buy a quality tire. An exspensive 245 will provide more traction than cheap 275's

I have 255/40 on my 17x8s and i dont like them, they look look too small and they are too small at only 25". Ideal and next time i will go with 245/45.

according to the tire guide 275/40/17 should be on a min 9 in rim. I run 255/45/17 but 265/40/17 are acceptable for an 8 inch rim also. A wider tire on a small rim isnt going to be any better handling.

Gallileo60,

if you go to BFGoodrich Tires, go to sports car, click on a tire and click details. You will find tire sizes listed with specs, what rim will fit, tire height and section width. Lots of info. By the way a 275 will not fit on a 8".

Just for a heads up. I have 17x8 wheels with 275's on the rear and the rub the wheel well lip on occastions tearing up the tire. The also make the car swaw a bit in the turns due to the tire sticks out so far past the rim lip.

Thanks for the heads up...I went with 255 45's back and 245 45's front on 17 inch by 8 rims...seems to work well, but I still would like a bit more meat on the back...Anyone running 265's on 8 inch rims? If so, how is it??? Thanks, Tom
