I need new tires on the rear rims, What is the widest tires that I can safely put on the rims. They are the stock 15" RS rims. Its an 89 Camaro, I'm not lowering it in the future, too hilly around here for my taste on a lowered car. The tires on there now are 215 65 15 I believe. I would like to get 255s but that may be pushing it. I want a wider tire for the rear for looks too.

 

IVE GOT 265/50/15 ON MINE RIGHT OW FIT GOOD NICE LARGE FOOT PRINT BUT A HAIR SHORTER THEN THE STOCK 215 THOUGH. ALSO HOOK NICE TOO NO RUBING BUT I ALSO HAVE RAN A 275/60/15 WITH ONE INCH SPACERS ON THE TOP OF THE SPRINGS AND ALSO RAN 255/60/15 WITH NO SPACERS BUT CANT CARRY NO ONE OR IT WILL RUB OVER THE SLIGHTEST BUMP

 

I have 245/60/15s on the rear. They look good imo, I wouldn't want any bigger though.

 

I agree with 85zed....a 265 60 or 275 60, even a 275 50 for that matter will cause the speedo to be out due to the tire being 1" (or more) taller than the original tire.

A 245 60 is the biggest and tallest I would go.

Between a 255 60 and a 245 60 you are only gaining 0.2" of width....just something to think about...............good luck

 

I went with 235/60s for the same price as 215s

 

i got 295/50/15 and there is no problems

 

You put a 295 on a 7" rim without and ride issues (side wall budgling) and your speedo is not out with the taller tire?.........

 

the only thing is the speedos off by 5 mph. they buldge but it makes it look tougher and they never ripped off with endless amounts of donuts. no rubbing either

 

and i was afraid to put 275 on 8" rim
