turn left, BANG?
just took the car out for a spin, the second time this year. I got a bit aggressive with some turns and noticed that when i take a hard left turn, i get a loud, pretty solid sounding BANG from what sounds like the left rear
.
I got under the car and cant find anything that appears to be hitting, nothing is busted, no impact/scuff marks on any suspension component. the sway bar is a little close to the shock, but there are no marks or evidence of them hitting.
I did notice that i seem to have some rubbage on the inside fender well, only on the left side. With the car sitting on the ground i have over 1/2" of clearance from the tire to the well. the tires have little sidewall, 335/30/18, so i cant imagine that they are bulging enough to touch? the panhard bar is perfectly level. I'm little confused. It doesn't sound like a rub, and the scuff marks are not very heavy so there is no way they were causing the sound.
this couldn't possibly be coming from the axle could it? maybe its ready to let loose?

Re: turn left, BANG?
Often times when I have the wheel turned to full lock to the left or right, there will be a loud poping sound coming from somewhere on the car. Can't remember where since I just got it out of storage today and have yet to hear it, but I do remember a lot of other people having the same problem. I think one person even replaced every part of their suspension and still had the problem. From what I remember, no one came to a conclusion about why it happens.

Re: turn left, BANG?
Take a real close look at the front torque arm bushing, it may have split and the hard cornering is letting it ride too high in the bushing, when you staightin up it SNAPs back down.

Re: turn left, BANG?
well its not the torque arm bushing, i have a pretty new UMI crossmember mounted arm and the bushings are fine. the marks in the wheel well are not rubbing, just marks in the new undercoating from when i put the wheel on.
Im really starting to think its the rear. When i get some more nice weather, i'll have to flog it a bit and see if i can make the noise worse or break something... then i will now for sure
.
I just find it weird that i only happens turing left?

Re: turn left, BANG?
What kind of ends do you have on the PHR? I know people who have 315's on their fourth gen need a rod/rod to stop the rubbing, but I'm not sure how much clearance they have.

Re: turn left, BANG?
the panhard has 2 rod ends, they are IN the wheel, so no issues there

Re: turn left, BANG?
There was another thread where someone ruled out the rear because the car still made that poping noise after they rebuilt the rear.
Does it only do it when you have the wheel turned full lock or just whenever you turned the wheel?

Re: turn left, BANG?
its only when i have the wheel turned to full lock or close to full lock. Not when driving slow, like in a parking lot, only at speed.
Its a single loud metallic bang, not wheel hop.
