GTA Suspention vs. Trans Am Suspention

I was just reading this article on the GTA Notchback (http://www.highperformancepontiac.co...k/ram_air.html) . It says the GTA had a more comfortable ride. I hate how hard my Trans Am's ride is and was wondering what I need to change to make it more like the GTA? What makes the difference? Thanks!!!

I dont think it says there is a difference between the TA and GTA, but rather GTA and... say... Iroc-Z, which is good because there isnt anything different between a WS6 TA and GTA.

Re: GTA Suspention vs. Trans Am Suspention

there is no T is suspension

GTAs came standard with WS6---Trans Ams did not. So if its non WS6 suspension they are different in many ways

However---you mention a comfortable ride??

A F41 suspension will ride better---sort of like a Cadillac of old. (okay not that bad!!!) A bit floaty and not great in the corners. So F41 Trans Am would have a more comfortable ride then a GTA....that article is out to lunch.

I wish I could drive a WS6 to feel the difference. Has anyone driven both?

I drove an F41 Trans Am a few years back. It sucks--but it rides nice.

However WS6 still rides pretty good--while giving you much more handling capabilities.

Honestly off the floor the ride was not all that much different. The most difference you can make is getting some good shocks. Cheap shocks ride bad.

GTAs always seem to be sag more at the back and end up with no rake. What's up with that; even when the stock suspension on my WS6TA was shot after 19 years it still had a good stance.

Re: GTA Suspention vs. Trans Am Suspention

GTA's always came fully loaded. I know the Ultima seats weigh a lot more, plus leather does too. Someone here tried to log springs to suspensions and cars and gave up, it was somewhat random but I do know the stock springs in my 86 are thicker coils than my 89 and they're both loaded WS6 cars. I'm sure the complaints over ride made them soften the back more over the years as thats where most people feel a rough ride... coming from stiff rears.

Yeah probably. People were bitching about the solid brake pedal in the earlier cars too.
