Squealing while turning

So whenever i turn either direction. theres a squeal i think coming from the front. I'm thinking it should be in the steering, however it kinda sounds like a wheel bearing. Has anybody else had a similar problem? I can't get to it until this weekend. Any tips or hints on where to start? Thanks for any help.

Welcome to TGO. Start the car and turn the steering wheel lock to lock. If there's a squeal, check the power steering pump (when's the last time the fluid level was peeked at?).

Re: Squealing while turning

Thanks for welcome. I've been loving IROC-Z's for quite awhile and i finally found one with the equipment that i wanted. Anyway i don't think its the pump. It's a higher pitch. I'll definately try it tho. It's more of a high pitch squeal, like a wheel bearing. There's also some noises when i brake hard that the suspension compresses. I just got the car last tuesday so i'm still figuring out all i have to do. I'm going to try and put it on a lift saturday, but until then i wanna figure out where to look. Thanks for idea......anymore?

Ok I just did what you said and while sitting at idle i turned the wheel both ways lock to lock and heard nothing. It only happens about 10mph+. Do you think this could be the early signs of a wheel bearing going out.

Re: Squealing while turning

Check your front brake pads. If they're getting low the "squeelers" that warn you when your brakes are worn down can make a little contact with the rotors when you turn.

Jack the car up. Grab the wheel(s) at the 10 and 4 position and try to wiggle the wheel/tire. If there's movement, the wheel bearing is probably the culprit.

Re: Squealing while turning

When its funny you guys said about the brakes. Today it started squealing/sqeaking when i apply the brakes. So ya its gonna get new brakes and rotors in the front. I'll try that and let you guys know. Doesn't look like i'll get to it til next week tho.
