4th Gen Rear Discs/Rotors on 3rd Gen??
Just wondering....
Can the 4th Gen rear disc and rotor setup be used on our 3rd gens? A friend of mine found a crashed 94Z with the rear in good condition....just wanted to know if this is possible? Thanks.

What about ABS? Does that have anything to do with the setup? Like, will it work with the 3rd gens if the 3rds are not set up for ABS? Or will it cause a problem? Not too familiar with brakes, thats the reason i am asking.

man you guys, no replys to such an easy one,
ok, well anyways, from what ive been taught is that the fourth gen rear does just bolt up with modification to the EBrake cable,
you will need the proportioning valve to get the full oppurtunity of having four wheel disk. if you get it off a Z28 it has posi in it. and better gears. ABS is all in the Brain, the sensors. and the brakee booster/ setup in the engine bay.
type in my name into the search, and then theres two, "what can i get from this" and something else youll be able to deduct.

I had a few questions about this swap. Some backround info on me: 1985 Z28 with rear disks.
1) What year brakes did you swap into your car? 1993-1997 or 98+
2) Is this swap as simple as going to the local parts store and buying 2 rotors, 2 calipers and pads for a 4th gen. Then going home and putting them on as if they were made for the 85.
3) What do you have to do to the e-brake cables to make them work correctly?
4) Anything that I should know about that I have not thought of.
I also want to use my 15" wheels. I am going to be going home for Thanksgiving break on Friday, Nov. 16th. If you could reply before then, that would be great.
Thank You,
Jesse

I've submitted a tech article to thirdgen.org a week ago that shows how to do this for a drum setup (rear drum to 98+ disc). I expect a lot of the information would be helpful for you, too.
Anyone know how long it takes them to publish a tech article?
I can't answer the rear disc to 98+ disc questions (I don't know what the axle flange on the 85 disc looks like, or how the e-brake works), but I can tell you that two different types of stock 15 inch rims fit (82 turbo cast, and 91s). Your rims may be different, but the heat-sink fins on the calipers are normally the only things to get in the way, and they can be ground down.

My car already has rear disk brakes. Will the 4th-gen calipers work as a direct replacement with the exception of the e-brake cable? What about front calipers from a 4th-gen on a 3rd-gen? My brakes suck, so any help would be appreciated.

My understanding:
If you have
- 10-bolt disc rear end
or
- 1989-92 9-bolt disc rear end
then the 98+ (LS1) rear disc setup will work on your axle flanges without drilling or cutting the flange.
88IROCARMY talked about this in a previous discussion (which gave me the idea of doing it to my drum rear):
https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/002629.html
Visit his website (listed in one of his messages) for more information.
Neither the 4th gen front disc brake rotors nor calipers will work on your 3rd gen front end without modification.
