I don't know about everyone else, and I apologize for not searching if anyone has provided this idea already, but since we're already almost into the weeds with the stock suspension, and lowering takes us down extremely low- even more so with some setups, I had an issue with NEITHER of my jacks fitting far enough under the car to safely lift it for servicing anything.

Each time, I'd have to use my 20 year old MVP old crusty red jack to jack up one side on the floor pan just enough to get my 'nice' jack under to a safe, secure jacking point. It took a LOT longer than it should, and 2 jacks, to get my car in the air for anything. Ramps are out of the question obviously, too.

What I did was cut up some 1x6's that were leftover from a planter box I built 2 years ago. They're about 12" long. I place them in front of the front and/or rear tires, drive on top of them, and "Viola!", instant 1" lift, and just enough room to get my 'nice' jack under the car.

If you are worried about/have problems with them slipping when you try to drive on them, spray some rubberized undercoating/bed liner on each side, or connect them to the rear ones with some nylon rope. Just make sure that the rope lengths are the same.

 

Ramps aren't out of the question. Just store bought ramps are. Just gotta make your own!

I do my oil changes & such without ever touching my floor jack.

I have 2x4's by 1 inch tall i drive onto. Then use the arms to go under and lift the car voila! still a pain in the *** for sure!

 

yeah..i usually just use the shitty jack from the trunk to lift it a bit then slide the good one under..lovin stephen's ramps though..

 

Thanks. Those are Version 3.0 & I already have ideas for improvements for 3.1 or 3.2 Mainly ideas for lightening these, so they wouldn't exactly qualify as a Version 4.0

Those are HEAVY, but that's OK. They never go more than about 5'. Wall to floor & back.

how low is you camaro i am going with a 1.75 all tha way around but i am also droping 55 lbs from tha front end and have to hear or did tha rear lca reloction brakets i have been in to this cars for a better part off 14 years but never lowered one just trying to get an idea what its going to be like

 

I used some Intrax springs that I bought back in the late 90's. I'll try to measure yet this week. It doesn't help that I have 91-92 GFX.

You will hate speedbumps and small furry animals even more, but you'll love corners and twisties like never before.

And I thought I had problems with stock height .I have just enough room to get my "small" floor jack under one side (I beleave its called a lower control arm) and get it just right for a jack stand then the same with the other side. Looks like ramps with those extensions are in the future.

 

VERY rarely. I just park whatever end I need up on my ramps. Unless I need to take a wheel off, I just use the ramps

 

i always use jackstands when i use a jack. but I own 2 lifts so most times I do those instead.

Sorry guys, I changed my reply as you were writing yours, I thought it might have sounded a little cocky.

 

Using the same points of reference as Stephen's photo of his car, mine measures 25 inches front, 25.5 rear (with sub box and 3 amps).

I'm a FIRM believer in jackstands. I didn't mention them because I assume that most members would use common sense and either place stands or ramps under a vehicle that has been lifted with a jack, as well as utilizing wheel chocks.

I knew the rear needed lowering, but thought the front good. Guess not!

Nah......The nose will just clear a parking or sidewalk curb. Much lower & the nose would hit.

Wow. I'm running a 245/50/16 (25") and have quite a bit of space between the tire and the fender.
Your car looks completely slammed while I look like a 4x4 even though I'm not 26" to the rear fender lip. This is with the Intrax 2" drop spring and what's more is there was no interior in the car when this pic was taken.

My car had a 24.75 front fender lip and a 25 7/8 rear fender lip. I did not need ramps to jack it up- what I did was used a smaller floorjack up under the rear ofg the door sides and would just knock right under the SFC's and with two or three pumps get high enoungh for the larger jack up under the side near the front tire.

ps- THis car never rubbed the tires on the fenders. It was extensively modified with a very lightweight motor and exotic suspension and brakes- very light weight unsprung weight so the tire would not be thrown upward in a hard bump into the fender plastic. At most it traveled 1 1/2" with a normal front suspension travel of 1". It rode VERY nice. Driveways and speedbumps were often pains on the airdam and the trans x-member, but it would take the blow well with engineered plate ramps and reinforcements under there that acted like a small skidplate so nothing would gt harmed. Exhuast was completely custom hand built so nothing ever hit there either.

Food for thought, Once you drive onto those ramps, how do you get the jack under the siderail SFC's? the ramps are in the way to also crawl under the car to work. Just use the two jack methodor just drive onto a 1ft long peice of 2x6 then jack from the side. Those long ramps are heavy and a pain to store.

Yes, that pic was made before I even got my Weight Jacks. I kept thinking about getting a pic, but never have. My wing is missing & the new hood isn't in that pic either. Sorry about that.

#1.....I don't have SFCs yet.
#2.....I haven't had a need to slide a floor jack in from the side since making those ramps, just 2 months ago.
#3.....The ramps haven't been in my way. I either come in from the front or slide over them. I had the idea that I was going to make the long section into 2 pieces to slide in from the side, but they haven't been in my way enough to bother me to cut them.
#4.....Yes they are heavy. I never said they were light. But if a crip can move them around, a fully abled body person should have an easier time moving them & no right to complain.
#5.....Not a pain. Standing up against the wall, they use less the 1 square foot (each) of floor space. 10.25" x 11" (each) to be exact. Less than 2' x 1' total

And here is a pic that I took just 5 min ago, for the purpose of posting here. I do intend to adjust the Weight Jacks to bring the rear down lower to match the Photoshopped pic. I made that back when I was still looking for a used set. Brand new was too expensive for me at the time.

 

Low profile jack works under mine just fine. Got mine on sale couple months ago for $145. I'm pretty low and this get under just fine:
