Wonderbar

any of you guys have one of Spohn's adjustable/pre-load wonderbars? Was really wondering if it was worth the extra cost for it considering you can grab a UMI/BMR one for $42 now. It's the only part I haven't upgraded and I figured adding this would go along nicely with the strut tower brace.

I don't see the point personally. And the Spohn Wonderbar has a reputation for poor fitment. Stick with the TDS version. You'll like it.

Have a link to their site? I saw a few threads about it, but I've never bought from them.

Toxic, apparently it helps with stiffening things up a bit. I'm not sure if it's a gimmick or what, though. They're the cost of two wonderbars.

Nvm, I think it's TopDownSolutions from a google search.

I'd suggest after market strut mounts with spherical bearings before adding the STB.

If you'd like more info about the adjustable piece from Spohn, there's a write-up on his site.

toxik, you don't mention which after market bar you purchased, but I'd think that most would be considerably stronger than the stamped OE piece. Long ago, I bought an OE bar, which was slightly bowed. To correct it, I simply put it between two 2 x4's and put a bit of my weight on it.

Already have the Edelbrock 3 point. That came in earlier this week. The wonderbar really is the only thing I have left that hasn't been replaced.

Re: Wonderbar

I always considered a Edelbrock 3 point brace but have to change my open element back to stock every 2 years to pass CA smog. Kind of figured it would be a pain removing and installing it on a regular basis.

There's not really a whole lot of hardware with it. It'd probably only take 15 minutes to take it off. It's the initial setup that takes awhile from the looks of it. Either way, you can't buy Edelbrock braces new anymore anyways so.. yeah. I really hard to look hard to find mine new. Called literally 8 places. Not a fun experience.

I would assume this is because they sold off the entire suspension facet of their business to QA1 recently...? I bet if you checked with them they probably do or will carry it on their website, just rebadged as a QA1 piece now.

I'll share two things. First, it is not much of a pain to remove the brace. Just two bolts and two screws & nuts at the firewall.

Second and better news. You don't even have to remove it to swap from an open-air element to the factory stock. It is not in the way at all.

Went ahead and placed an order through you. Spent a little more than I anticipated, but that's alright.

By chance do you know the hardware size for the wonderbar? I'd like to replace them since a new part is going in.

Re: Wonderbar

I don't know if it made much difference but I took a stock wonderbar and clamped both ends down on a bench, cut out the hollow tube and welded in a solid piece of round stock steel with the same diameter.

I would have to wonder if this would place more stress on the new welds you made since you essentially cut it and altered it. I can't answer this one, though.

Good question Delta.
I have also welded solid every seem under the hood, from the crossmember to the core support.

Re: Wonderbar

UMI Performance makes some pretty awesome stuff, you guys should take a look at all of their suspension products for our cars.

umiperformance.com

I'm picking up a new wonder bar, tubular pan hard bar and rear control arms with greasable polyurethane bushings. Not horribly expensive either

+1 I went with TDS because of the third bolt hole. I doubt it makes a difference over UMI/BMR but WHAT IF IT DOES?!?!?!

I have them in my car. i would buy founders today since the designs were identical until founders improved theirs. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/susp...-improved.html The plates are made by the same person. If you search you'll find a thread where a guy bought one brand and got the other brands sticker on one on accident.
