turning radius

so 92 camaro rs stock rims with stock size tires and i would like to now why s sports car turns like a semi truck... i mean my car has a very bad turn radius and idk why, i do now when i turn all the way the wheels are hitting something and rubbing, but isnt damaging the tires, as far as i can tell.

so im asking is there a way to improve the turn radius? maybe adding spacers? or changin tire sizes? or fixing wuts wrong with my car?

any help please

Re: turning radius

the car has a pretty good turning radius, so something is wrong. what size wheels? are the 15 or 16". the factory 16" wheel are front and rear specific and if you put the rears on teh front, you will have rubbing and all kinds of problems. check that first.

Re: turning radius

What size front tires? Turn the wheel to what lock is for you and take a pic straight down from the top of the fender so we can see where it is. Or take a wheel off and see where its rubbing, and go from there

Re: turning radius

It's just the nature of these cars. I've driven trucks and SUV's that have a smaller turning radius. You'd have to modify the spindles, a-arms, and inner fenderwells to get a smaller turning radius.

Re: turning radius

I think someone else was complaining of the same problem. Turned out he put on the inner tie rods backwards on the Center link. The nuts for the inner tie rods should be on the front of the center link.

Re: turning radius

For the record, my car is very difficult to do u-turns, it rubs on inner fenderwell, headers, and stock sway bars. The wheels are stock 16" IROCs with stock size tires. Stock sway bars, edelbrock headers, and stock fenderwells. I have LS1 brakes which push the wheels out 0.3" so this should in theory make it rub less but it still rubs and there isn't much to do to fix this. The best thing is to get adjustable steering stops that stop your steering from rubbing by bumping the spindle arm on the steering stop before your tire comes in contact with anyone which will prevent rubbing. Alternatively, I could modify inner fenderwell, bash in exhaust header or grind away sway bar but I'd rather not do that lol.

Re: turning radius

ok ik very old thread but hey its my thread haha. anywas as I was doing work I saw my passenger tire got chewed up and now this problem is in the front again. but I got pics to show the rubbing. still same size 225/55/r16s front rims on front rear on rear. and when looking there muti spots the tires are hitting its driving me crazy. 1st pic is driver (not as bad) 2nd is passenger (that shinny part on the tire happens to be the metal showing! my camber somehow on the passenger side went 1.3 degrees outa tolerance and with the turning... bye bye tire.)
