I need help on a suspension setup

I have a 91 RS t-top camaro. I put the LT1 engine in it, I am looking to do suspension/chassis work. I want it to be a comfortable car to drive and cruise in, but at the same time, I want good handeling so I can take curves fast, but I don't need to auto cross it. I wont' be drag racing, so ride quality is probaby highest, but I want sports car handeling...

I have been on rock auto and am thinking the following... Moog 5662 constant springs up front, and AC Delco 45H3025 variable rate in back.

But not sure if I should just go with the Eibach 3801.140 - Eibach Pro-Kit Lowering Springs...

also getting the
Spoohn front end rebuild Kit with ball joints
sphoon sub frame connectors

For shocks/struts which of the below would you all suggest?

Struts
KYB 735001 AGX
Sachs 030675 super touring

Shocks
KYB 743019 Gas A Just
AC Delco 5405001 Advantage

just some thoughts. curious what everyone who knows more about suspension than I do thought.

Pro kit would be fine, a lot of people have problems with the quality of the parts in spohns steering parts kit, I would pass on it and use moog parts instead.

Delco or the kyb shocks are ok and will be fine with your setup

Start with welded in SFC's first to tighten the uni-body up. Choice of the KYB's is also a good start. Springs are not my choice for replacing on 91 model until later in my opinion.

Re: I need help on a suspension setup

Thanks everyone! I think I'm going to lean toward the KYB and Moog parts. I found I can actually get the Moog steering components cheaper than the sphon.

I plan to get everything at once, and just throw them all in at the same time. I will go with the weld in subframe connectors. Are the Spohn ones good, or are there better ones I should look at?

If you are planning on doing all of the steering components at once, I would also look into A-arm bushings as well as strut mounts. Not saying they have to be the top of the line, but you are going to need an alignment done after replacing those parts, so you might as well replace all parts associated with an alighment at the same time.

OH, I didn't think of the alignment part! good call. I don't think the bushings are to expensive either, I'll add them. I was also going to get some urethane spring insulators. so I may see about the urethane A-Arm bushings.

I'm actually thinking of just getting new strut mounts from Moog as well...

Re: I need help on a suspension setup

if its just a cruiser that you want to handle and ride well. You won't really need anything better than the IROCs Z28s or WS6's came with. I wouldn't recommend the polyurethane, use moog OEM rubber replacement bushings and spring isolators. The rubber bushings won't develope a squeak the polys are known for and rubber is what gm used in the IROCs so you won't be "leaving anything on the table" using rubber in your build. as for spring isolators rubber will absorb more vibration and the poly doesn't compress as much as rubber and may increase your ride height a lil more. Also don't forget ball joints if your going to replace everything. (i replaced everything at once. very pleased i did)

For springs since you are building a street car i'd go with the pro kit. Nothing wrong with moogs, i just prefer a lowered thirdgen. Make sure you get good struts and shocks. Don't think you'll want adjustable like the KYB AGX, but get something good.

Also check and see what size sway bars you have, IIRC 36mm front and 24mm rear are the ones to have. Junkyards are good places to find good swaybars cheap. A lil wire brush and paint and they will look and work like new. Get new swaybar bushings and end links too.

Re: I need help on a suspension setup

Your goals seem similar to mine

In this order:
1) UMI and Alston SFC'S
2) Koni yellows and Moog 5665 rear Moog 5662 front
3) Moog front steering replacement parts ... Rock auto..good place.. And don't forget sway bar bushings..
4) Consider the Astro van steering shaft set up... Search TGO for the info
