Caster/Camber Adjustment...

I know there's already a thread on this topic but it's 18 years old, and I didn't wanna be "that guy" who brings old threads back from the dead. My question pertains to adjusting camber at the upper strut mounts. How hard is it to move them when the car is raised off the ground? I would think that the force of the coil spring pushing the lower A-arm downward would pull the strut down tight against the top of the tower and make the mounts difficult to slide into a desired position. What advice can you guys offer?...

Re: Caster/Camber Adjustment...

There is a special tool made for caster/camber adjustment on 3rd gens. It looks like a 'C'-shaped turnbuckle. IIRC, Summit, among other suppliers sells it.

So I take that to mean they're not gonna move by hand or by tappimg on them with a piece of wood (?)...

You will probably be able to get them to move with the wheel(s) off the ground, but that's not how front-end alignment is performed. The tool allows movement to be done in precise fashion with the car's weight on the suspension.

I just want to get it "close enough" to drive it to the alignment shop...

They're not bad to move with the front tires in the air, but on the ground they're next to impossible to move and hold in position by hand.

Re: Caster/Camber Adjustment...

Well, I did it, and if I'd known it was gonna be that easy, I never would have started this thread.
I left the car on the ground, loosened the 3 nuts, and they slid toward the motor all by themselves (which is what I wanted). They were extremely easy to move with my hands. Now there isn't all that positive camber...

Re: Caster/Camber Adjustment...

Stopping by to mention they are relatively easy to move with the suspension unloaded but you found that out already.
