Question about choosing the right wheel bearing

I was looking into purchasing a set of new wheel bearings. I looked into Timken and one of the questions is do you have standard suspension or heavy duty. The only difference between the 2 is the outer bearing, it's the only one with a different part number. The inners are the same for both. My question is will both outers fit the same rotor?

Is the heavy duty listing suppose to be for the Z28 model? I'm guessing the heavy duty outters have a steel cage as oppose to mine which have a plastic.

They both have a steel cage. The stock bearings will last in a third-gen for 100000 miles easy if they are packed once in a while. That same outer bearing will probably fit lots and lots of other applications, some that may need a HD bearing. IMO, Timkin is the best--go with the standard bearing. Z28's don't have a different bearing.

I purchased a set of the Timken standard and the outer has the plastic cage like stock, the inner has metal. Oh well no big deal, I just hate repacking them with the plastic cage.

Just to prove I did a search

on front wheel bearings.

Question : Even if the outer circumfrence of the outer front wheel bearing is different (I thought they were all the same 82-92), is the inner circumfrence exactly the same on all models?

Put another way : I bought a set of upgraded front rotors to fit the standard spindle (not the 1LE) from year one, and when I went to my local USauto parts store he said the '89 outer bearings wouldn't fit into the outer bearing slot, but he tried an '87 set and they fitted perfectly. If the inner radius is the same, I'm assuming it'll fit on my spindle OK.

Did that sound confusing?

The "heavy duty" outer bearings are for 1LE cars. On 1LE cars the inner bearing is the same as all other 3rdgen cars. But the outer has a larger O.D. The I.D. is the same.

Thanx,ANDYZ28
