update: changes after ZZ4 cam swap

I recently installed cop car injectors and a new fuel pump. My new Walbro fuel pump works great. I installed it yesterday (for those of you who were lucky enough not to see my other post) and then got a good nights rest knowing that that job was behind me.
Today I am doing some prom burning in side where its cool. I feel to lazy to do much else. The car is responding very well and all I have done so far is adjust the VE tables. By the way, I started out with the cop car bin file .
I am very glad to have TBI instead of a carb! I have been able to achieve a decent idle with a healthy cam. Even in gear with AC on. It feels pretty snappy again. It would be difficult to get this kind of low end throtle response with a carb.
For anyone considering a ZZ4 cam swap, theres just no way that you could get around chip tuning.
Next step will be to adjust the spark table.
When I get done with power enrichment tuning I will bring some results.
Later, Dave

ZZ4 cam and a 305 can wait to hear the track results. maybe you can slap a single plane on there one day and tell us the differances you find.

Maybe if I ever get a cowl hood. The performer RPM manifold is pushing it. Had to drop down to a 2 1/2" tall air cleaner element.

7547 weiand ($100) or 7525 weiand is probably as tall as that RPM if not shorter.

no offense but if you can't get "low end throttle response" with a carb then it certainly isn't the carbs fault.

Oh ya, I forgot, carbs work good with large cams and automatics with stock torque converters. Silly me.

When are you gonna get some track times with that beast?

i dont want to start **** but you just said the answer to the problem. if ya got a large cam then you need to invest in a higher stall torque converter

I disagree. Carbs do tend to "need" more converter.
I'm running the 212/222 .435/.460 112 ls cam and my car has a stock TC. Idles at 500rpm in gear and I've even been able to get it down to 400 without stalling but my timing is off (too retarded) and the car doesn't even creep after letting off the brakes when it's below 500.
Yes a higher stall will improve drivability but it seems to mask poor tuning.
Yes a higher stall will also make my car faster in the 1/4, hence the reason I've got a 2800 stall sitting here waiting for a cam swap. Carbs are just too hard to tune now that computer prices have dropped big time, gas prices are going up, and EFI prices are going down. Right now it seems to be that if you drive your car frequently and don't sell it in less than a year...you would actually save money by going to EFI, just a random thought on the whole carb vs EFI.

400rpm? Sounds like you might need a new tach, JP. That's rather low. Did you try an aftermarket tach to see if it matches the tach you are using??? I have used the 212/222 GMPP cam lots of times and have not had that response.

Ya, if I had a carb that would solve the problem. But since I don't have a carb I'm not having that problem. That was my whole point in the first place. If I ever pull the trany for any reason I'll probably go to a higher stall just to make it more fun to drive.

Lots of stuff to sort out first. My fuel pressure is varying all over the place. I originally thought the pump was at fault and replaced it. Burned a new chip and it seamed to be fine. The next day it was running crappy so I popped the hood and checked the FP gage. Seems to be on something different every time I look. Sometimes higher, sometimes lower. Makes it impossible to tune your chip.
