Help: Intake Manifold Selection??

Help: Intake Manifold Selection??

Can anyone provide me with some information on helping me select a manifold. I have taken a look thru a bunch of posts, but I am still a little unsure regarding things. If anyone can share any of there experiece with me I would certainly appreciate it.

My car is an 89 with an L03. The car is fairly stock with the exception of the following, eddlebrock headers & y-pipe, high flow cat, underdrive pullies, open air element, and your usual wires, cap & rotor.
In the future I can foresee doing the cat back, and a cam. I am also bouncing arround with either the "ultimate TBI" mods or ditching the stock TBI in favour of that Holley unit ( I am still undecided regarding this one)

I am interested in determining what intake is the best for me keeping in mind my current set-up and what I have planned for the future, also I should note that the car must be kept smog legal.

I was taking a look thru a couple of things and saw the Eddlebrock TBI intake, the Holley Projection (HLY 300-66) and I was also told that I could use any single plane manifold with the use of an adapter plate. Any suggestion on the above in terms of what might be best and any problems/issues I can expect in the installation of the manifold would be appreciated.

I plan on putting on an Edelbrock Performer manifold, and then a carb-to-TBI adapter you can buy from Holley. This way you can use the single plane manifold (maybe dual plane?) and if you ever decide to move up to the Holley 670 CFM TBI unit, you can machine the bores from 1 11/16" to full 2" - you cant do that with the Performer TBI

(BTW, it will fit under the hood if you use a non-drop base aircleaner and remove the silencer ring)

Thanks man, that was the sort of thing I was looking for, there are a couple "performer Manifolds" are there not, do you happen to have any partnumbers etc. I was thinking the same about the different bore sizes, with the addapter if I do decide to upgrade is an easy change, just a quick mod of the spacer/adagper.

I dont know much about manifolds sorry about being kinda clueless!

I think there are several intake manifold threads in here that could help you out...
A lot has been posted on here. I really do like the Holley intake I have and it works well with my setup.... But then again, I don't have an L03 anymore....

The single plane is way too much for a stock tbi. Power from 2000+ to 7000 it out of rage for most modded tbis. Go with a nice dual plane if you're going to go with the carb route.

Go ahead and do the ultimate tbi mods anyways. They're free and they'll help out. It'll take you probably 2-3 hours the first time you do them just to make sure you're doing everything right.

The performer TBI is a direct bolt on. No additional modifications need to be made to get everything else back in place.

The other manifolds may require some additional mods (egr, throttle linkage, or coil mount) in order to work. I'd get an opinion from someone who actually owns a manifold before I'd buy.

You can probably score a manifold for cheap on Ebay, or in the classifieds here ( I got mine for $60).

yeah, the Edelbrock Performer RPM is NOT a direct bolt on replacement. It is made for a 350 TBI truck, and is a piece of ****. I had to drill a hole in the manifold and tap it, I forget why, but we needed a stud there. The hole was on the original. I called edelbrock and they told me it wasnt meant for our engines, and they were unsympathetic. Come to think of it, i have had problems with EVERY edelbrock part i have bought. (The Performer carb not working with the performer intake was GAY) Screw edelbrock. They may be the most recognised brand in the muscle aftermarket, but their parts leave somthing to be desired.

I didnt have to drill a hole in my manifold for anything, but I did have to rig up the low temp sensor. Ill figure that one out later though lol. Im happy with my RPM, the ports on the manifold matched the gasket perfect, and the gasket matched the heads perfect, so I didnt even need to port the intake.

Maybe it was for the a/c brace? I dont think I put that back on.
